There’s a lot of reading material in my courses and I seem to write out everything in my notes. I also re-read everything. This isn’t really helping.
What are your tips for studying smart?
Thanks.

I heard the Feynman Method, Pomodoro Method are good. Study for a bit then take a walk or a bike ride.
Take good notes in class. Read the textbook and underline with highlighter the important things. And then study the notes. That was my strategy in college and I always got good grades. And try to always get good sleep every night. That’s something I didn’t do and wish I had done.
I second the taking small breaks. In my experience if you hit it hard you may not retain the material well.
Use cue cards if possible. As someone suggested earlier, take 10-15 minute breaks between 30-45 minute study sessions. It takes a few days for study material to solidify in long term memory. Usually if you can explain the study material to someone else you know the material well enough.
I ageee with Gina going to class and taking good notes is vital. Then myself personally would do the lecture readings 1 chapter or two ahead so I knew the material before the lecture. Then when test one came around I would re-read the material two-three times over including lecture notes and memorize whatever I felt needed memorizing.
Not test related but something I wish I knew back then would be to keep my notes and books. These will really come in handy in the future especially when it comes to retention.
Study smart not hard. I went to a top university in the US and rarely do I open a text book. Almost everything you learn can be found in lectures or homework or by asking a TA. In fact, go to group study if you can. That will help. Focus on concepts and key words. If it doesn’t look important, it probably isn’t. Memorize in your head with an understanding of the concepts. Take good notes in class. If you are spending too much time on an assignment you probably are doing it wrong or doing it the hard way. Skip it and ask about it later. Organize essays in bullet points and quotes before writing. Don’t try to sleep late or over study. Sleep and breaks are important!
Plan ahead and don’t get behind. Allocate enough time well in advance to study and read.
I’ve got both A’s and F’s in college. My F’s were usually caused by not managing my time well. Waiting until the last minute to do homework sunk me like a shark. But in some classes I rose up like a sea bass and did extraordinarily well.
Take notes and re-read them everyday, study for 50 mins,15 min break, other 50 mins and so on.
I try to make short notes. Instead of writing down everything, re-word what you read into your own sentences, and shorten them as much as possible without losing the important information.
