College Tips

What’s everyone secret? How do you succeed in college? I’ve been to a couple different colleges. The biggest was the University of Northern Colorado. Making note cards really helped me to study for tests. I always had a really nervous feeling, which had a lot to do with my weight. I feel like I’m missing something.

I would always do my homework/studying right after my last class – say around 4 or 5. This way I wasn’t up late studying and could get some sleep. I found this helped a lot, so I could relax at night and I got decent grades

Smart @anon49063606, thanks

Someone told me that writing out all their assignments really helped as soon as you get the syllabus.

Going to class is the most important thing. Don’t skip any classes. Then your memory, paying attention to lectures, and reading does the rest. I have issues with all this stuff.

I agree – attend every class if possible. Also, take good notes and try to be attentive. This way you won’t have to study as hard and the good notes will make studying easier.

I wasn’t much of a reader, either. Spend all that money on textbooks and I would rarely use them.

I would memorize stuff from the book and basically everything on the test was on the powerpoint. Completely agree with notes.

take classes which accentuate your strengths, if you hate math dont take a bunch of math credits a semester. take like one math class and two classes in something youre good at. that way if you bomb the classes you were strong at will pad your gpa. in college not everyone can study anything, that is the point of there being different majors and different departments. youre supposed to focus on one thing you think you want to continue with in the future. so dont take classes which arent required or relevant to your degree. this is also a good way to save money. plan ahead, identify a focus and go for it. also, the further you go usually the more complicated things get, not necessarily harder but more complicated. retention of previously learned material can be important in the courses you take later in school.

-go to lecture because that’s how you find out what’s on the exam and other important info

-utilize your school’s disability services

-go over your notes every day don’t cram study

-don’t skip over the things you don’t know, struggle with it until you understand

-do things asap, don’t wait until it all builds up

Everyone learns differently. I learn by rewriting info in different ways while talking about the material, like teaching it to an invisible audience.
