Struggling friend

Hi everyone! Hope you are doing just fine.

I have a friend that I used to work with a couple of months ago and he’s on a verge of getting evicted from his apartment.

Initially I told him if he did get evicted he can stay at my micro studio… But on a second thought, I barely have room for my belongings. He wants to bring his belongings to my apartment soon.
And don’t know if I want to share my small room.

Anybody have any suggestions???

You have to be straight up with him. If you can’t youre going to have a roommate

If you can’t go back on your word just be 100% for it with no hesitation. Tell him to get storage somewhere.

Next time just stay quiet.

Thank you for your response @broken

I asked him if getting a public storage somewhere is an option. He still hasn’t responded yet.

He is having eviction court meeting on the 21st, so I dunno if he’s actually getting evicted just yet. But if he does he will have to pay half of the rent.

If you want him to pay you in rent, you need to write out a very detailed contract and you both need to sign it. Put all expectations in it, including at what point he’ll be evicted for failure to pay rent.

Would you get into trouble for sub letting with landlord?
I think you need to say youve changed your mind and offer help in other ways like write down contacts of organisations that could help him

He is requesting for me to add him to the lease

Just tell him your landlord didn’t approve when you asked if he could stay with you. That’s the easy way out.
