Stores that you used to shop at that are no longer in business

Are there stores that you used to shop at that are no longer in business? You can include online stores, and it can be from any time in your life.

I used to shop at Radio Shack. I bought a CB radio from them. They used to be everywhere.

I used to rent movies from Blockbuster.

What about you?

Pretty soon it will be Sears. I have a Radio Shack about ten minutes away.

How about Montgomery Wards? There used to be stores called Thrifties, they merged or got taken over by Rite-Aid.
CVS used to be Longs Drugs.
How about Alpha Beta grocery stores, are they still around?
There used to be a chain of great ice cream parlors that were popular called Swensons.

Yeah, there’s a few Radio Shacks still around, but there used to be thousands. I never heard of Alpha Beta (must be a west coast store).

You can never stop innovating because if you do the competition catches and passes you.

Bowling alleys are going away. Do you remember roller derby?

Yes I do, I used to watch it on our little black and white TV. I could never figure out for certain if it was all staged and planned out. It never seemed like a legitimate sport. I remember going to see a match in person with my sisters and some family friends when we were kids. It was pretty exciting.

@77nick77 you have a radio shack? When you enter do you say, “you there. Boy, what year is it?”

Yeah, they had a sale on CB radios a month ago.

And tube television sets.

Radio shack finally closed last year here!! Just last year!!! Blockbuster to me is the most obvious example as blockbuster used to be HUUUGE corporation and now they have one location left in Alaska I believe due to Netflix and Hulu and Hollywood sucking now.

I just remember local grocery stores and stuff.

Blockbuster was the best only right after they got sued. You would rent a movie, and they’d print out a few free rental coupons for you, and then they would tell you to return the movie whenever you damn well pleased because they legally lost the right to charge late fees.

Here today, gone tomorrow. That’s my reality. All I can do is stay to true to myself…I think the closing of mom and pop places shows what the state of our humanity is…
