Stopping drinking

It’s day 11 for me of no alcoholic drinks. This is longest I’ve managed in about 3 years when I managed 3 weeks. Felt good all week and can function a lot better but today I have noticed feeling some familiar hypomanic things like liking music too much and romantic fixations. I’ve read about alcohol withdrawal psychosis and I don’t think this is me as it is much shorter term than 11 days. Has anyone given up alcohol whilst on ap and what was withdrawal timeline like for you? Don’t want to get ill and equally don’t want to start drinking again.

I quit drinking for a year while on ap. last year, and didn’t have any withdrawals or added psychosis. I wasn’t drinking a lot. like 2 drinks on Saturday night before that. recently I’ve gone back to drinking, rewarding myself with 2 drinks on Friday nights after a long week.

good luck with your sobriety. it’s really helped my short term memory now that I don’t binge drink multiple times a night like I did in my 20’s.

Thanks for your kind words. Recently I’ve been drinking 60+ units a week which slowly crept up from about 40-50. I hope the hypomania is just my mind rebounding after being depressed by all that liquor.

Nice !

I’ve only had a beer/glass of wine or 2 whilst on APs. I didnt really like it as it made me sluggish and anxious. But everyone’s different.

Although alcohol is considered a no-no for those on APs; I dont think a glass of red wine will hurt, so as long as you limit yourself.

Cant help you im afraid. Still in withdrawl after the last scotch binge. I feel a hell alot better not drinking, but ive still felt the need to keep a 4 pack of 3% lager in the fridge in case i need one. If you got any magic answers - page me lol.

AA is the best really. Here it seems a bit clicky - but you will soon relate to the excuses for drinking, and the crap that will come out of your mouth - just to excuse that “1” pint that will always turn into 5 or 10.

Just be ready to have a daily war with yourself.

Best of luck.

Boy do I recognise that. Best of luck to you @Naarai. I have the same weakness for the weak 3-4% beer.
