Alcohol tw tw tw

Anyone had first hand experience with alcohol and APs? Looking to quit but need some pointers!

I quit twice this year, but started again… I don’t feel much except in the morning it takes me a little while longer to start the human motor that is the mind and body!

I’m a crack addict who got clean in AA, CA and NA. I also drank but I was not an alcoholic. I can recommend AA, they’re free and proven to work. Maybe go to a meeting near you and check it out. They even have online meetings. Meetings aren’t bad, the people are usually friendly and no one bugs you. If you follow some simple steps and listen to suggestions and follow some principles it will not only help you get over your drinking but help you live a better, more honest life. You should be able to find meetings online or get a number you can call to get a schedule of meetings near you.

I was really into AA for a number of years. I went to 5 or 6 meetings a week for 5 years then slowly tapered down my meeting attendance. The people are so open and friendly I felt comfortable getting up before 10 or 20 people and giving a 5 or 10 minute talk sharing my experience, strength and hope. I made some friends there and acquaintances.

Bit hesitant about aa it could affect the way I work…I wanna be able to quit cold turkey but just need that motivation which something like as can provide… hmm!

Have you had your liver checked. I just got a liver scan to see the condition of my liver I am waiting for the results. If you find you have liver issues then that might be the motivation to seal the deal.

Yeah also @77nick77 i think we’ve had this convo before about aa.

Edit: must be annoying saying the same thing twice!

@Dude1 hope you’ve been well but my liver was ok last time I checked, need to check again yearly because of APs

Alcohol messes with APs and stops them working. If I have a drink I take my Olanzapine the following morning.

My doc told me I could drink (responsible) while on aps. After reading the medicalinstuction it clearly says that you shouldn’t drink alcohol while on it. So I stopped completely.

Alcohol doesn’t seem to work properly with aps anyway. It’s been like being drunk without the fun part. Not worth it.

How long have you been drinking for? If it has been a while, speak with your doctor. Alcohol withdrawal can cause seizures, and they might be able to give you something that reduces the risk. With my friend, they gave him some meds to soften the withdrawal and make it safer.

Probably better if I don’t say!

Same, but I have no control… I’ve kept away from smoking after ditching that! Will power will make me quit, or a life altering occurrence!

I went to twelve step meetings, AA and NA. I don’t go anymore. I never used much and the stories I heard scared me straight. I wanted to use yesterday morning but I think before I act. I have lots of tools for recovery. It never works out in the end and comes with a cost. I even think it’s immoral to get high too much. A person has to deal with these feelings of boredom.

Such is life, I’m aiming for the best version of my self still… I want to work… I’m hoping if I don’t have time on my hands I won’t drink!

Yeah fair enough @Jinx thinking before you act proves you’re mature…

i drank many times while on aps and the effects vary alot. i wouldnt recommend it tho even tho ive never had any problems with drinking but i dont like it too much as i am either depressed in the following days or would drink so much and feel groggy but at same time not able to get quality sleep. i sleep better drinking energy drinks and being sober compared to alcohol where it was kinda cool but then late at night id be annoyed by how long it takes to wear off and throwing off sleep

Yeah, that sounds about right, little nuances bother me too and drinking numbs that stuff away… I hope to be clean by hopefully the end of this year…

When I had voices the only time I had release from them was when I was sleeping or rediculously drunk.

I wasn’t an alcoholic who drank daily but I did binge drink once a week or so.

I went five years without a drop of alcohol then another two years without a drop .

Now I drink but only at home with boyfriend and the day I drink I’ll skip my meds.
