Must have been scary in there, I never been to a state hospital before. I read online that many of the people in state hospitals are there from court as mentally ill offenders or not guilty by reason of insanity. It’s good you are out, the forum is glad to have you back
Ur right it can definitely be paralyzing. And a lot of people who aren’t dealing with it don’t get that or can’t wrap their head around it. It can be so difficult trying to explain to people because it is kind of invisible I no for me I freak out silently most of the time. That’s awesome about the book! I’ve heard of it but don’t know much about it…
I look forward to ur posts about it id like to learn more
Thanks yeah there was a civil building and then a building for people who committed a crime and were there. It was scary and a lot of the patients were attacking everyone else, it’s like it wasn’t safe in there and wasn’t a good environment to be in…
That sounds horrible … wish you to never go through that again .
Yeah reminds me of how it was when I went in recently. There was lots of yelling, fighting and overall aggressiveness. One guy attacked me a total of 3 times (but i defended myself each tim3) before he was finally kicked out and sent somewhere worse. I can only imagine how bad it was where you were at
That sounds terrible…
I don’t think all state hospitals are bad probbaly but it just happened that where I was at, and it sounds like where you were too, was not a good place to be.
The state hospital in Alaska is pretty nice altho the groups and therapy kind of suck. There’s a gym with a rock climbing wall, a greenhouse where we took care of the plants, and good food. In contrast the state hospital in Florida was right out of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” with absolutely no therapy or activities (except smoking) and a dingy environment (but that was in 1992 and it may be changed. Glad you’re out.
That does sounds nice, wow a rock climbing wall that’s cool
The best thing where I was at was a music room with a stereo that we could blast music as loud as we wanted.
I’ve been to government hospitals six times. They were ok. One ward though, was rough with fights breaking out and ladies yelling or screaming. I got used to it after a while and fortunately didn’t stay in there long. Just twice for a few days.
That’s good you didn’t stay long at least…it’s bad when ur stuck in there with that sort of thing going on.
