Starting Zyprexa tomorrow

Hiya, guys. I’m starting Zyprexa tomorrow, for a 1 month trial. If it goes well, I’ll switch to Lybalvi, which is the same thing but with an appetite suppressant. To avoid weight gain.

Do you guys have experience with Zyprexa and/or Lybalvi? Did it work for you? What side effects did it cause?

Thanks for any responses. Hope you all are doing well. 🩷 :blossom: :four_leaf_clover:

I’m on Zyprexa (Olanzapine) it really helps with my paranoia and delusions. On the negative side, it increases my appetite and makes me sleep 12 hours ar a time.

Im also scared to go off it in the future because ive read some horror stories of people literally not being able to sleep when withdrawaling from it.

It has some nasty side effects such as weight gain and diebetes, but apart from that its a decent ap. All ap’s have side effects anyway its a matter of personal preference which ones you choose to tolerate.

Maybe lybalvi wont have the weight gain of zyprexa which is what im on, but you may have to be careful with diet to avoid diabetes.

zyprexa makes my heart beat fast. after just a couple weeks of it my heart health on my fitbit went from above average to almost “poor”. so i quit taking it. clozapine and quetiapine do the same thing to me.

I was on Zyprexa for 3,5 years. And unfortunately I don’t tolerate it. I got very tired and depressed. I will not lie that was the worst years of my life. But different drugs affect people differently

Zyprexa was weaker than Abilify for me. I was full psychotic on 15mg plus 50mg Seroquel for insomnia. I think I had insomnia cause I was psychotic. 10mg Abilify was better I wasn’t psychotic on it but I developped addictions. Now on risperidone 6mg, no side effects other than the usual negative symptoms.

It was a good med but the day time you will most likely be starving and beyond exhausted atleast that’s what it did to me however if it weren’t for the side effects I’d still be on it helped stabilize my mood helped a lot with voices and when I took it as a prn it was the best prn I’d take it with coffee it completely got rid of all suicidal thoughts completely idk how it will help you tho everybody is different

Zyprexa worked great for me for a year and a half. Until my stupid, now fired, pdoc decided that it was a great idea to lower me to 5 mg because I was “doing so well.”

Yeah dumb bunny…perhaps that was because the meds were working

When my next pnurse tried raising me to 15 mg, we discovered it didn’t work for me anymore, like sometimes happens.

Until Dr M broke the magic spell, I loved the stuff. Best of luck with it!

I used to take Zyprexa and I slept ten hours a night and would fall asleep during the day. It gave me akathisia. I might’ve gained some weight on it too. I felt pretty good on it except for the akathisia.

On zyprexa for about 17 years. My biggest concern is that I am no longer able to sleep without it. This happened about 7 years in taking it.

Other than that it does the job for me. Causes solomnes, spend much time sleeping and increased appetite. Appetite seems to be dose dependent though. Manage to break even on my weight at 7.5mg.

Good luck with it

it was the first med to help my symptoms significantly. although the weight gain was too extreme. i stopped taking it a week ago and am on invega now which i took for a few years before going back on olanzapine. the invega for me is not as bad for weight but equal for effectiveness

Have you had trouble sleeping?

not really. i sleep less but ive been taking benztropine along with the invega, and i think the combo makes my sleep not too bad as the main thing stopping olanzapine is insomnia from cholinergic rebound and benztropine is anticholinergic which olanzapine also is

All my symptoms are eliminated with zyprexa except voices which are reduced. I gained some weight (25 lbs) but part of that was due to hypothyroidism

It’s brilliant for sleep I’ve been on it since 2008 have tried other APs but find Zyprexa the best.

@Blossom Zyprexa is a really good medication. It helps my symptoms both sz and I feel it help my mood too. I take 30 mg of the melting wafers that don’t cause weight changes or at least as much weight gain supposedly (at least in my case, I haven’t gained weight on zyprexa. Seroquel was the culprit for me unfortunately).
