So the other day my doctor decided to take me off of risperdal and put me on haldol. He wants to be safe about things so we are slowly tapering me off of risperdal and being titrated up on haldol at the same time. I was just curious as to what if anything I can expect with the haldol.

You can’t really base your reaction on someone else’s experience necessarily. But I will say when I was put on haldol I lost weight…but it made me incredibly restless as well.
Depending on the dose, expect to fall asleep about 30 minutes after taking it lol! Seriously, Haldol is what they use at the psych ward here to sedate agitated folks. I like how it makes me feel but I can only go 5mg total a day…when I was on 10mg I got bad akathisia.
The weight loss would be a great thing for me at least. The weight gain and some other rather embarrassing side effects is why we are switching me off of risperdal.

Yeah I think I know what you’re referring to. Good luck on the haldol though, it may change ur life!
I love haldol! Totally changed my life for the better. I can’t tolerate more than 20mg oral a day or I’m a zombie, so I take 10mg oral and 100mg shot.
I have zero sex drive while on it, and the akathisia gets pretty bad sometimes, especially with new increased doses, but I take 750mg magnesium and it helps a lot.
I love haldol also. I’m getting the injection. The only side effect I have is that I sleep twelve hours a day. My sex drive is healthy. I’ve also lost about twenty pounds since cutting out sugar, fast food and drinking water.
I wouldn’t take Haldol and I haven’t. I don’t like it.
I actually put myself on haldol after reading some experiences with it on another forum. I too used to be on resperidol plus invega. Haldol has allowed me not to gain anymore weight. And gives me freedom of mind while at the same time taking away symptoms. I take a small dose though. I was way over medicated on invega. I take (just recently went back up) .75mls(ccs if american) of 100 mg. Which translates to about 3.5 mgs of tabs a day. Also just wanted to add. I always keep a bottle of 1mg tabs around incase I get a little squirley

I used to be on 30mg of haldol and it worked wonderfully for me, but the med made me very restless.
I took haldol in the hospital 20 years ago. It got the symptoms under control fast but it was the worst experience I ever had with a medication. It can also cause bad acne. I have scars from when I was in the hospital. I wouldn’t take it again unless I had to. I’ve been on Zyprexa since I got out of the hospital.
It made me restless too. But great cause no weight gain 
. I get easily restless with lots of meds, so maybe it wont work like this on you. Wish you luck with it!
