Just got my SSDI raise.
I got an extra $136/mo. This will help pay rising cost of everything.
Does this happen every year?
When we get a payrise the rent goes up a little later. But this could be changed by rising medical bills. I don’t know why I get paid at all. I am already living from the garbage.
It’s called a COLA, a “cost of living adjustment” and it’s happened most years since 1975. It’s based on inflation (the cost of living) and is usually different each year, sometimes it’s higher, sometimes lower. 5.9% is one of the highest in years. The highest ever was 14.3% in 1980. The lowest is zero.
I hope we get it next year. I mean these past few months have been hard with everything getting really expensive. I never seen prices go up on so many things like this before.
Long live capitalism.
No, this doesn’t happen every year. Usually we get an increase that is smaller than this, but one year there was no increase. This year’s is pretty substantial but is also happening during a time when inflation is expected to match it, so we’re getting less of a bonus than it seems.
Other people have to organize everything themselves. They have to be active every month to keep their housing and food train etc. going. On disability you get everything given to you. I am not sure I am that disabled, maybe just lazy.
Yes I have to organise everything from the garbage, cause I don’t have a paid job.
@anon53623539 Is your housing really bad? Can you find a better place?
Like a cockroache I am just happy to be alive in the brickworks. I moved endless times.
@anon53623539 Man that sucks - moving cost are a ■■■■■. I agree SSDI does not pay enough. I’m also on medi-cal this year. Next year I think they are switching to Medi-care which scares me cause I’ll start having to pay for medical bills.
Yes it’s tough for genuine people.
My rent just went up $75 a month, which basically means that I’m actually not going to see a COLA benefit… I’m still left with the same amount of disposable income as before the rise in SSDI.
@Halozination I think you are disabled if you’re on SSDI. The means testing they put us through to get SSDI is insanely difficult. Negative symptoms make you feel lazy but its part of our illness.
@WhiteRaven That is really ridiculous. Landlords are so money hungry.
I am living in Australia
. Same thing different names.
@kxev it is not called SSDI or SSI or disability or retirement where I live. I am just part of the lazy population who isn’t active in the world.
Don’t blame the lazy, they haven’t done anything.
