SSD Question

I talked to a Social Security lady on the phone. She said I could work 9 months making as much as I want before they will eliminate my SSD. Had anybody else heard something similar? It sounds too good to be true.

I am doing that right now. Currently making $400 a day but it’s only part time.

Still getting SSDI. Get reviewed in May.

yes its called the ticket to work program you can earn as much as you can without losing disability for 9 months. after that period if you earn more than around 1000/month its considered substantially gainful activity and you can lose your disability benefits.

so basically you can work full time for 9 months, and then work part time and still receive your disability benefits as long as you don’t make more than 1000 as a part timer

If you make more than 840 a month it will count as your trial work period. If you use up 9 months of it you are kicked off disability and you wont receive any further benefits no matter how much or little you make. There’s some really bad advice in this thread.

well what your saying is different then I’ve read from social security

heres from the ssa website page 2 and 3 as I understand it

What happens if you try to go back on SSD? Like if you get sick again.

Ive known people who tried this lost their benefits couldnt get their medicine or help. Wound up homless. As good as it sounds it truly is to good to be true.

I was told to go through DOR. That way they won’t mess with your benefits. Can anyone confirm?

Very hard to get your benefits again. Slim chance. Fortunately i have had talks with homless people who have done this very zame thing.

Find someone who has your diagnosis that has been doing that program for more than 5 years and you will have your answer.

This is my pet peeve. If you can work, you should work. Why is it about how much money you can get? It really pisses me off. I wish I could work. Even going back to my last job as a cashier at a tiny, slow paced casino seems impossible for me now. If you feel you can work you are very lucky and should do so for your own good and the health of Social Security.

That wasnt the question that was asked. I would love to work. But like most people with my diagnosis i have times i get really sick and cant for a period of time. The question was will ot affect your benefits. Again from others experuence yes it can. And as hard as it os to recieve benefits it harder to get them back once they are gone. Still the choice is yours. But you need not to be ignorant of the truth.

I am very sick but I am trying to work.

I worked when I was sicker than I am now. I had two mortgages, a wife and a child in college. I had to work. Not working wasn’t an option. We would have been in the street. I was in and out of hospitals and day treatment programs when I wasn’t working.

Then I got SSDI. No one is getting rich off of social security.

I am fortunate I found a job I can be late to and miss a lot of time for appointments. Most jobs aren’t like that. You have to be there or you get fired. If I am still able to do it when my review comes around I am willing to lose it but I have to keep Medicare.

Glad to see you’re so benevolent. Just remember those who actually make real money take advantage of programs/deductions. Those amount to way more than getting a $900 a month check for being too sick to work most of the time. Save your self righteousness for somebody else. By your logic if you are taking advantage of SS you’re a scum and should go work. I don’t want to hear excuses.

Tomcat your awesome keep trucking i know alot of people in your situation. Hopefully your benefits dont get slashed. And i agree anyone who is truly taking advantage of the system should be ashamed.

I’m glad Social Security has an incentive program to get people to go back to work. It will make the transition easier for the people who decide it’s time to try. When I go back to work it will help me a lot. I hope it helps you. I apologize for hurting your feelings. I was not trying to call you scum by any means. Good luck.
