Someone here on this forum said to me that people with simple schizophrenia diagnosis don't need to take meds, he says it will worsen negative symptoms. Is it true?

Can you support it with research papers… Doctors please answer

What is “simplex schizophrenia”?

Schizophrenia with no positive symptoms

I would be confused as to why someone with only negative symptoms would be prescribed antipsychotics as they usually make one feel even more sedated, etc.

Maybe, if your pdoc did prescribe them to you, it is because they believe you are at risk of positive symptoms occurring?

He never said that to me that I might develop positive symptoms… He doesn’t talk openly to me about it

Simple-type schizophrenia - Wikipedia.

Sounds more like depression with psychotic tendencies.

Well, you called it simplex, so it was confusing.

Are you sure about there being no such thing… That’s what I was diagnosed with

I don’t see why someone with only negative symptoms would take Ap’s, since they generally only target positive symptoms. Why would you want to?

and yes, AP’s can make negative symptoms like Anhedonia worse.

I wonder what on earth is the difference between simple schizophrenia and depression???

They said no such thing as simplex schizophrenia, because it was what you typed. We understand now, I think.

Only a psychiatrist can answer that

Miss typed it … I just placed x over there by mistake

Yea thats what I told him. I am the one who told him about simple sz in ICD10 and no need for meds.

ICD10 is the equivalent of DSM5 in other coutries. DSM5 is used in North America and only has one type of sz, no simple sz.

Simple schizophrenia

A disorder in which there is an insidious but progressive development of oddities of conduct, inability to meet the demands of society, and decline in total performance. The characteristic negative features of residual schizophrenia (e.g. blunting of affect and loss of volition) develop without being preceded by any overt psychotic symptoms

Seems like too old information… The paper was published in 1998
