Hello all! I’m new on this forum and I ask you to forgive my English because I’m not a native.
Ok, so I’m a normal teenager but I’ve noticed that since last year I started to hear voices in my mind saying bad things. At the first time, my mind ignored them but since few months ago, “my mind” started to curse those voices/thoughts. I know, it’s very weird but I also noticed that I have lack of motivation and when I want to do something I forget about it or I start doing other things, like surfing on the web or listening to music. For example, when I arrive home from highschool, before I start doing homework I should listen to music(without my intention). I am able, for example, to solve math problems, to do programming and other stuff like that, I can do these things, but…
I’m very scared and I want to belive that it’s just my imagination. I don’t want to go to psychiatrist because I’m afraid of my parents because they will be disappointed on me(they want me to be an important man with a well-paid job) nad I don’t want to be considered insane by the others, I want to have a healthy family and healthy kids…
Thank you for reading. I’m waiting for your opinions and advices.
Welcome to the forums!!
I assume you think you might have schizophrenia. Voices are a common symptom of schizophrenia. No one on here is qualified to diagnose you, but common sense tells me that if you have something wrong with you, than you should see a doctor just in case. “Better safe than sorry” as my mom used to say.
Ignoring your problems will not make them go away. Your parent may be disappointed in you if you have schizophrenia but that’s like being disappointed in you if you got diagnosed with cancer. It is what it is.
If you see a doctor he will examine you and try to see what’s wrong with you. You can’t get treated for your problems until you know what they are. And a doctor (I’m talking about a psychiatrist) will examine you to see what’s wrong. It may be another problem all together. A doctor will examine you and tell you what it isn’t. In other words, there are certain other conditions whose symptoms mimic schizophrenia. A doctor will test for these and he will make sure it’s not those.
Being disappointed is besides the point. The most important things is to solve your problems.
Schizophrenia is a disease like heart disease or diabetes. It’s not your fault if you have it. If you don’t get seen by a doctor, your problems may get worse. With schizophrenia, the sooner you get seen and treated the better your outcome will be.
