There was also social media 20 years ago, it was just a little different from today’s big social media providers such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, then 20 years ago we had listservers (basically the lists of email addresses), USENET, Internet chat groups, IRC, video conferencing groups and some others as I remember. So although the general public started using the term ‘social media’ in the 2000s, this social media existed already much before.
