Is it bad? I have been eating lots of sausages that have sodium nitrite in them lately. I found this on Wikipedia and its worrying me.
“Adding nitrites to meat has been shown to generate known carcinogens such as nitrosamines; the World Health Organization (WHO) advises that each 50 g (1.8 oz) of “processed meats” eaten a day would raise the risk of getting bowel cancer by 18% over a lifetime. The World Health Organization’s review of more than 400 studies concluded, in 2015, that there was sufficient evidence that “processed meats” caused cancer, particularly colon cancer; the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified “processed meats” as carcinogenic to humans”
I used to be vegan. My 22 year old is vegan. I’m not judging you and I’m not pissed off. You just have to understand your child might need other sources of food as she or he grows. Kids are very picky so you have to make sure they eat a well balanced diet. I found my daughter needed other sources of food when she was little. No harm done. She’s physically very healthy
They use if a lot in bacon too, although you can pay more and get bacon without it these days. All processed meats pretty much use it. It is ever so bad for you, but few people care. Like smoking, I suppose.
Thing is its so easy and fast to eat processed meat and sausages. I just put cold meat in a tortilla with lettuce and mustard then roll it and eat it. For sausages I heat them for 1min in the microwave.
