So sick of this

I think my doctors like piling on the ■■■■■■■■. I got a ride to the doctors appointment to get refills for my meds. The receptionist said they tried to call me and tell me the doctor had a family emergency and wouldn’t be back in the office until 4:45, I would have no way home by then. They never tried to call me, I received no message from them. So now I have to wait until the 2nd of February before getting my refills. i’m just a little frustrated.

Yes that’s annoying
Sometimes they are so unhelpful

Doctors are sometimes not very professional at all and make horrible decisions. The GP I saw initially before getting a real head doctor gave me samples of Geodon because she assumed I would get into a psychiatrist before she ran out apparently because she did and couldn’t actually prescribe me any of it and so I had to go cold turkey for 2 weeks from Geodon. Fun times.

i’m out of several of my meds, including one of my anti-psychotics and my lithium, clonidine, amitriptyline.

I hate being without meds as I feel it upsets the apple cart

Go to the hospital if you have to. Try not to forget that.

that’s the perfect way to describe it.

Hang in there, that does suck, but do the best you can, hopefully it will be resolved before a week’s time

I know, but i’m trying to avoid that. I think I will be okay while I still have my Haldol. I have enough to last until next week I think.

Can you call them and ask to have the prescriptions called in to your pharmacy. Let that doctor’s office know that they are taking a liability risk by knowingly allowing your meds to run out. You arrived at your appointment and they have a responsibility to you for the refilling of your meds.

i’ll call tomorrow and find out, I can’t now cause the nurses stop answering the phone after a certain time. the only med they gave me a refill for was the lorazepam.

I don’t have to deal with that, but if I did I’m pretty sure I’d make a stink and remind them that they have a responsibility. Without losing your cool, but with authority. They dropped the ball not you. It just amazes me some of the stories I hear on this forum about the lack of consistency and care people are experiencing. Speak up for yourself. You definitely deserve better.

I took your advice @Hedgehog , and called my doctor’s office. After a couple of tries the nurse finally picked up. She said they may not be able to get me refills because my doctor isn’t expected until next Tuesday. She asked what pills i’m out of. I told her pretty much all. She wants me to wait until after the doctor sees me on the 2nd. I told her I don’t know if I can go without them for that long.

If you tell me where you live, I will see what I can do to get you a list of other prescribers in your area. By approving transfer of your records at your current doctors’ office, you may be able to get a script that way. What you’re putting up with there sounds wholly inappropriate. Standard practice when one’s doc is unavailable and the pt needs his meds =now= where I live is to get the pt to another prescriber ASAP (to avoid malprac litigation).

I know, I’m not saying just go on a whim but remember it’s always an option if you need a last resort.

thanks @schizofriendia it is nice to have options, thank you. my partner asked me if i wanted to go but i told her no

I probably should’ve went during the past few weeks due to how mentally unstable I’ve been but ultimately decided not to and when I told a family member who asked me how I was doing that I should’ve probably been in the hospital, the conversation just ended immediately. No surprise there because I guess I’m expecting to much of them as a human being to at least ask why because for all they know I could be dying with cancer and just gave up on life or something.

It sounds like it didn’t work? I’m so sorry. It’s just incredibly unprofessional and risky on their part.

@Hedgehog yeah I know. i’ll hear from the nurse hopefully tomorrow.

@martinhersey1 I thought I would get into the new doctor before then but I was wrong, then I tried to get refills for my current meds and the old pdoc said I needed to see him first.
