So is all change with the pdoc meds! Lurasidone (Latuda)

He wants to change from seroquel to lurasidone due to metabolic syndrome. Am so excited. Apparently I should be less sedated and should lose weight. A win win.

Am on 600mg seroquel now and he will add the lurasidone when I have reduced to 100mg. He said I should look to reduce at 25-50mg every two weeks. So we are looking at a 5-6 month reduction time. In the meantime I will still take depixol depot.

Am getting seroquel 50mg tablets in a couple of days so will start the reduction then.

Anyone taken lurasidone before? Or zeldox?

It’s Latuda. It’s a good med. I take that and Geodon.

Works well.

Latuda is still a brand name med. There is no generic yet so it is expensive.

We get our meds free on the NHS.

I am on Latuda and trying to lose weight. when first put on it I thought it would just come off but that isn’t the case, must exercise

Interesting news. Did he give any reasons for his choice?

Apparently it is NHS scotlands policy for those with metabolic changes. I don’t think it has gone generic over here so must cost a fair bit. But maybe it costs less in the long run.

Apparently it is good for cognitive and memory stuff too.

I’m on Latuda and I love it. It helps a lot with mood and psychotic symptoms for me. It sedates me a lot, though, and gives me restlessness at the same time. But it’s different for everybody.

@Jimbob, does it look like the Zyprexa? I look for some med who is calming as Zyprexa but without the weight effect I guess.

You will probably like latuda much better than seroquel it is a much less “heavy” med. You’re not likely to be sedated on it and not as likely to gain weight either. However it’s a newer med so it can be expensive and some insurances won’t cover it (mine wouldn’t cover it unless I had tried 3 different APs and had them fail).

I couldn’t stay on it because it made me suicidal from akathisia.

I don’t know @Anna1. I don’t think it is that sedating so maybe not like zyprexa.

Hey, I really like Latuda. The first time I used it I found that with a bit of time, I was able to socialize and feel emotions on it. Now I’m on a high dose of Abilify and Latuda, which is alot of medication so I’m still getting used to it again.

It also wasn’t bad for psychosis, not as strong as risperidone but still good.

Goodluck with the meds!

Seroquel causes less weight gain than zyprexa and is also sedating. But really all of the known for being sedating meds are associated with weight gain, zyprexa is just associated with the most weight gain.

One of My psychiatrists i had changed me to latuda from olanzapine because he was concerned about my weight.

Olanzapine made me gain 20 kg.

I am 10 kg less now but still not my normal weight that I am off medication.

I am pretty stable on latuda and pretty pleased but it does make my jaw clench which can give a lot of discomfort.
It also seems a bit more a activating or olanzapine might act calming and sedating which I thought helped me.

I tried coming off latuda because I thought I could try with out medication but I got severe anxiety and hysteria and I tenseness and it was so bad I felt I was not coping and worried about hospitalisation so my bf told me to take it again and not mess around with doses of a crumble etc
I felt much better when I started taking it again.

I might like to try geodon in 6-12 months but I am pretty happy with latuda.
I even started goi g for walks.

Glad we have medication to help us.

Have not seen I feel blessed, Andy and a few others around for a while.
Hope they are well.

Latuda is the best med i have been on, lost quite a bit of weight after amisulpride and risperidone. Sedating so take it at night with 350 cals. Wish you the best of luck
