So I decided to go to my brother's wedding

It’s in September.

These things freak me out.

But I was planning to go to to his place anyway.

And plus, it’s good to try and go out my comfort zone.

Plus incentive to loose weight, I wanna look good in my formal dress at their wedding.

Do you have any advice on how to survive and thrive,

Anxiety-wise?

Plus it will make them happy to see me

In a way I’m excited to go.

Just need to work on techniques to ride the wave of anxiety

I went to the 50th wedding anniversary of my aunt a couple years ago. I just pretended to be cool and talked to people but was one of the first to go saying that I’m feeling tired.

It’s good to have an exit plan in case you need it.

That’s true. I asked if there is one and he said the wedding is next to his house!

Well done for attending the anniversary.

I hope it was sort of good to be there for u too thou

I try to make an effort for family I like.

But I’ve cancelled wedding invitations of friends saying that I hear voices to never ever hear back from them. Go figure :grinning:

Some people are cool about it though but not everyone

I’m sorry to hear that. This is really unfortunate that they stopped talking to you.

It sucks, but you gotta do what you gotta do…

When you go, find a person who is off to the side you can talk to. Someone who isn’t a center of attention type. Keep engaged in conversation with them. Then when you’ve talked all you can with that person, find another similar type person and do the same thing. It keeps your mind occupied and distracted from too much anxiety.

I’ll try that, thankyou @LilyoftheValley!

I went to my twin brother’s wedding almost a year after I got sick. The med I was taking for the illness at the time did nothing more then to put me to sleep. I woke up psychotic. I managed to hold up though and had a good time.

I haven’t been to a major event like that in a while. We’re doing Father’s Day and my sisters birthday this Sunday. It’s just immediate family and some brother in laws. Good luck. I hope you’ll feel good about going. Congratulations about your brother. It’ll probably be good to go.

@Zoe Good for you for deciding to go! I am going to a family member’s wedding in the fall too! I too want to look trim in my dress but I have bad negatives and no motivation for the gym currently. Do you have any tips?

Are you traveling for the wedding? If so, it would be good to know how to fly with your meds and what you can and can’t pack in the carry on or if you check a bag (etc) if you are traveling by airplane. (If you don’t know this info already, that is)

Also, making a complete list ahead of time of what you need to pack and bring along is always helpful to me and lessens my anxiety about forgetting things I’d need. That way I am organized too.

Thankyou @TheSecondVariety

Oh cool good luck with the event! I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Tbh I feel I don’t want to go, I kind of want to back out but then again I do want to go. He said I can go back to his house if I feel scared.

Tips for looking good in our dresses? I realised I can’t be too strict with my eating in order to loose weight. I decided to just take out candy and chocolate basically, aswell as fizzy drinks. And I do a lot of physical activity due to my job. It’s helping me to really loose it this time. Maybe long regular walks would help for you and feel good too, I hope.
