On the discharge letter I received from hospital today the pdocs gave me a bizarre diagnosis -
“state of emotional shock and stress unspecified” (R45.7),
and “intentional self harm by unspecified means, home (???), during unspecified activity” (X84.09)
Huh???
Where’s the plain old schizophrenia unspecified (F20.9) diagnosis of last time.?
WTF???
Anyway I still have Schizoaffective Disorder and borderline personality traits and anxiety disorder that is my official DX . So why don’t they write that?
I think the last time the pdoc who wrote the discharge letter was much more competent, she stated my diagnosis better. But this one was a joke.
Anyone know if the world of psychiatry has a new classification system apart from DSM-V or ICD-10? Where the hell does R and X come from. How on earth do these pdocs come on this?
You got that non specific diagnosis because the docs at the hospital don’t know you well enough to give you a more detailed diagnosis.
They have to give you a diagnosis for insurance purposes so they basically go with anything.
I wouldn’t put too much importance in what a psych ward doc gives you.
Listen to your regular doctor, this is what counts.
I wouldn’t worry about it, diagnoses will only affect your treatment, they don’t predict anything about how your life will go. If you have psychosis or mania as a symptom in your medical record it doesn’t matter what they decide on for your ICD-10 or DSM-V diagnosis because they will use APs first because of those symptoms. Diagnoses are primarily used for insurance purposes.
