My clothes for winter weather are good for up to -70c, so I can stay fairly warm, but it is still hard on the face and hands

That’s -18 F. The coldest temperature I’ve ever experienced was -28 F in Great Lakes, IL (about 40 miles Northeast of Chicago). Wind was sustained at 40 MPH, so the wind-chill factor was -88 F.
Dress in layers, stay dry, and make sure your extremities (fingers, toes, ears, nose, etc.) are covered (prevent frostbite). And breathe through a towel.
