Smoking Debate

I had an annual review yesterday with the nurse at my GP surgery.

I told her I started Vaping and cutting down smoking and she told me not to bother giving up smoking as the short term benefits of it calming down people with mental health issues out weigh the long term health risks of cigarettes.

I am confused that a nurse advocated smoking. But does she have a point? We all have apparently lost twenty years anyway?

I’m not sure she gave you the best advice, but maybe she has a point.
Ultimately, it’s never a bad idea to quit smoking.
Maybe vaping is better than actual cigs though too…
I think you just have to do what feels right for you.

Yeah that is bullshite advice. These days the benefits to general health are multiple and so much better. It can give you relief as a schizophrenic but when you give it up you get way more benefit from something simple like exercise!

I wouldn’t recommend giving up if your psychotic but if your on the mend it’s the single best thing you can do for your physical and therefore your mental health!

I recently heard that people that use nicotine or have, have a lower chance of developing alzheimers. Idk if its true but sure why not

Yeah it can. Why I say don’t give up whilst psychotic.

Still. Giving up is still so beneficial! It’s just a no brainer and I was a cigarette beotch for years of my life. Wish someone would have come along sooner. Thanks Champix. You are a lovely lady!

I agree with your nurse. It has a huge benefit for calming those who have mental health issues.

I said this in probably 100 posts but NRT’s do a really good job of delivering nicotine without the nasty chemicals.

Thats funny.

I’ve quit vaping because it was killing my throat. When I smoke rolling tobacco my throat doesn’t hurt one bit. But when I smoke taylor made cigarettes (like molborra and them self-burning cigarettes) my throat is burning like acid.
I’m sensitive to chemicals.

I’m not saying smoking is good (I don’t know), but nicotine relaxes me. I prefer rolling tobacco over taylor-made cigarettes any day.

They add all sorts of chemicals to Taylor-made cigarettes, they even add extra nicotine. And Taylor-made cigarettes smell awful, all chemically and weird fumes.

Because of cardiac issues. Which are caused by smoking. That really was bad advice your nurse gave you.

I am unable to quit smoking tobacco.

Isn’t vaping nicotine the same thing?

Nor does the nurse know you or your mental strength
It’s true that cigarettes are relaxing, but there are calm periods that there is a condition to stop and not fall apart

When I smoked I coughed all the time and this nasty brown goo came out of my lungs. Since I replaced cigarettes with a vaporizer I’ve quit coughing, don’t feel out of breath, and saved money each month. I’m totally addicted to nicotine but like vaping over smoking as my delivery method!

Based on what we know now vaping is healthier than smoking.

@WhiteRaven You can easily OD on nicotine through vaping. Be Careful.

My ex was a vaper, and I saw significant benefits in him vaping versus smoking. The nicotine hits are there, like that’s the main benefit of smoking to those with MI. I would love to pick up vaping again, but I hope not to start on nicotine if I can help it. I don’t want to end up like my mother.

Don’t smoke and don’t start! I notice my negatives and hygiene are worse because of smoking. Plus my lungs hurt.
