Smart but dumb?

I wonder how many others here would say they are smart but dumb . In my case verbally very smart, but practical ,daily living skills(apart from money management) are poor .

I can drive and function perfectly, however my mind feels fragmented and it’s hard to retain knowledge…

I didnt do well at school at all…but somehow ended up with a degree . and have always gone for jobs that were of low pay… mostly because I dont often feel capable… i guess I dont want to be stuck in that dead end rut forever hence my decision to go back to school and change my career… my partner days im perfectly capable but I need to believe in myself more …

I’d say I’m verbally and socially not very smart

On a Facebook group I go on I once described myself as a ‘verbal savant’, but was told that wasn’t true as I wouldn’t be able to string together coherent thoughts if that was the case.

I think smart and dumb are very subjective words… i mean to someone I might be smart  but to someone different I might not

I’d describe myself as smart but dumb. Dumb when it comes to being a good judge of character. Smart when it comes to surviving I guess.

I can do something like that but I am poor when it comes to practical matters, and have been described as having very poor social skills .

I am also very good in university and tests but suck a lot in real life. I have a degree in physiotherapy with high GPA grades. I can’t work, I can’t even volunteer or live on my own. My parents get my food and meds, I do nothing. I have a hard time bathing once every week.

Smart because I know what I need to do. Dumb because I don’t do it.

I’m smart intellectually, but I don’t have streetsmarts.
I guess you can say I’m a typical nerd.

My social skills have improved, but I still misunderstand or ignore cues and hints.

The worst thing of being ‘smart but dumb’ is that non-professionals and psych professionals can take the smart bit and apply it wrongly to all situations . A failure to meet the expected standard can all too often be seen as passive aggressiveness, contrariness, bad character etc .
