Slept for 17 hours last night

Midnight to 5PM I was sleeping! Madness. Did get up once for water but it was too early to get up (5AM).

Sometimes I think about theres something wrong with me to sleep this long. But whenever Ive tried talking to professionals it never goes anywhere.

I used to sleep 16 hours a day for years. It only improved when I lowered my dose of clozapine.

Now I sleep usually 12 hours. Way better.

My sleep was much worse on quetiapine. Sleeping 15 hours wasnt that rare.

Generally on lurasidone its much better, but yeah the 17 hour sleep was a hell of a lot.

I’m sleeping like a teenager myself I can easily sleep for 11 - 12 hours a night must be the winter they say 8 hours is all an adult needs.

The only thing that helped me with this was adding a low dose of Abilify otherwise sleeping seemed to be all I was living for at moments in my life.

I have sleep apnea. I also need surgery for my nostrils because I can’t breathe through my nose. I sleep 12½h a night. I need treatment for it but after Covid it kinda came to nothing. Also my doctor or sleep specialist is an a-hole. He was really condescending about my issues when I said I sleep too much.

If you guys are sleeping more than 8h then you need to see a specialist. It’s dangerous if you aren’t sleeping well. We are talking migraines, heart conditions, blood pressure, being dangerous when driving.

See a doc about it, trust me!

The trick is to set a alarm and have the will to get out of bed when it rings. Easier said than done I know, but it is doable.

Ofcourse it helps to have a plan for the coming day too. If you don’t have work to go to work, you could always pretend you have to be somewhere at a certain time. When I have not had work I have often gone to a restaurant to eat and do my crosswords and go for a walk before or afterwards. Helps mood and motivation.

Yes. I have not had any medical expert respond kindly to my situation.
A psychiatric nurse I really liked said something like “Oh you just sleep because you have nothing to get up for”. And didn’t understand it at all.

My housing support staff said “oh its just an excuse” when I told her I need to sleep longer than others.

A very upfront and direct GP I saw once said it wasn’t worth perusing because it probably was related to medication and wasn’t something that there would be an easy fix for.

And yeah even among medical staff, they just act like it is due to laziness.

I slept about nine hours and got up and procrastinated all day.

My doc prescribed me stimulants, which I can’t take anymore due to Sz.

He also acted like it was laziness. They also prescribed me a mouth piece for my breathing issues but it didn’t help. I was still sleeping like a sick dog.

I need a CPAP but as I said due to shortage and COVID it came to nothing. If I get better from psychosis and if I can work or study I’m getting a referral to another sleep specialist and I’m demanding the CPAP.
