Sleeping too much 15hrs per day

It will take 12 days to switch from Latuda to Risperdal. I take both during the 12 days.

I am sleeping 15hrs per day when taking 80mg Latuda with 2mg Risperdal.
Is that normal?

No, I sleep 8 hours on 74 mg of Latuda.

It started since I started taking risperdal with the latuda. The psychiatrist said to continue taking 80mg latuda in addition to the 2mg risperdal.
I think both together are too sedating and blocking dopamine too much.

It might be the Risperidol then, a lot of aps cause sleep problems.

I’m big fan of risperidone. I did also sleep 15 hours a day on risperidone. After long months of using this AP I started sleeping for like 12 then, 10, 9 hours and eventually 6 hours of sleep look plenty for me now.

In 3 days I will be on only risperdal 3mg.
I hope its not the risperdal. I am tired of switching meds. Latuda gives me bad nausea and bad akathisia. Benztropine stops the akathisia after 30min though.

I would at least stay one year on AP to see it’s full potential, but if it is causing unbearable effects then change might be good

I feel with akathisia by exercising a lot and just jerking my leg on a floor. It helps a lot

Benztropine stops my akathisia after 30 min.
Psy said to take it when needed but I hate having it in first place and I have to experience it for 30 min. It prevents me from sleeping because it often happens during sleep after midnight or right when I try to sleep at night.

Exhaust yourself physically, as being schizophrenic with flat mood, we often can’t feel or understand what our body really need. I’m a huge book worm, I’ve read plenty of book people with mental illnesses and how they coped, even with side effects. You mind find a way, used to it

I hope its not the risperdal. What dosage are you on? Did you experience any akathisia?

Risperidone made me sleep all the time when I was first put on it but that went away after awhile but I’m on invega now

Could be a result of both at the same time. I wouldn’t be too concerned till your off one and onto the other. We all react differently to meds so keeping your doctor in the loop is good.

Yes I do experience it sometimes. It’s just body’s response to stress, anxiety and energy. I would recommend to go at least for long walks. Stay in a dark room before bedtime, avoid overstimulation.

i take 3 mg risperidone and i usually sleep 10 hours. my sleep varies a lot, could be more or less, but usually about ten hours

That’s a lot of sleep, but everybody’s different and some people need more than others. If it’s really bothering you, my only suggestion is to stay awake more.

Yea I think I will just drink coffee to not sleep too much in the morning.

I am glad you’re trying to find a new med.

I am troubled by your posting because I worry for you

I had 6 med changes before I settled on Amisulpride.

I slept so good on abilify, 8 hours was enough and i had a schedule going.

On risperidone shots now and i sleep for 12 hours at weird times. Im on the lowest dose which is equivalant to something like 1mg or 2mg of risperidone. When i was on the pills i slept for 16+ hours sometimes at 5mg.

Maybe ask your doc about supplements you can take with the meds to help with sleep?
