I currently take Risperdal. It seems to be a detriment to my cognition. I also have had trouble being productive, due to side effects that include oversleeping (12-15 hours) and difficulty concentrating, for more than two years. I want to get a job or go to school, but this AP is an obstruction.
Back in April or May, my pdoc gave me a sample of Latuda, but I didn’t get around to taking it due to switching to a new pdoc after an insurance change. I recently read that Latuda is “distinguished by its high affinity for serotonin 5-HT7 receptors […] The serotonin 5-HT7 receptor is a target of interest that may be associated with the potential for both pro-cognitive and antidepressant effects” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4706192/
Has anyone here switched from Risperdal or another AP, to Latuda and exhibited better cognition?
I had success moving from Risperdal to zyprexa. Zyprexa really does work for me but we’re all so different. I found risperdal good for getting me out of psychosis but had problems with cognition. I found zyprexa to be better all round. I also tried abilify for a while and that wasn’t as good.
There’s really little direct evidence to what works but it is, in my opinion , worthwhile trying for better function and thus changing meds. It’s really worked for me over the years but it’s also wasted some time and made things hard as well. It’s a bit of a crap shoot but it’s worth it in the long run… I think anyways.
I take Latuda and work and go to school full time. However, I do sleep from about 7pm to 7am, which is fine because I am still able to get done what I need to. I’ve never had problem with cognition except when I was on really high doses of haldol.
I take Risperdal’s update paliperidone and was on Latuda for a few months. The best way to describe the experience is that it caused me to be manic, extroverted, allowed me to control my weight, and made me feel the most like a man that anything ever did. Unfortunately when you’ve been psychotic for 22 years that’s not as wonderful as it sounds as I was also angry, lonely because the voices left for a while (which returned later), and kinda dangerous. I wish I didn’t have to take Invega and hear voices every day, and have prolactin problems. And between you and me I think I was “cured”. But some of us don’t need to be what we were meant to be.
Risperidone 8mgsmade me so tired but it worked then switching doctors I was put on a very very low dose of risperidone that was absolutely worthless.
I’ve been on the highest dose of latuda have been for about 5 years. It helps with the psychosis and mood of schizoaffective disorder. And adding lithium and abilify has also helped
At first no but gradually symptoms came back and I have tried haldol but I didn’t like the way it made me feel they then put me on abilify and it’s working with help if the latuda
I take Latuda and it seems to work pretty good. I take 120 mg of Latuda and 1cc of prolixin. Latuda was the first ap pill I ever took and I’ve been taking it for like 9 years. I have never had a hallucination. I just have delusions. I’ve heard that Latuda is weight neutral and the only side effect that I have is anxiety.
