Sleep paralysis or catatonic state?

When i fall asleep i sometimes wake up shortly after and cant move or talk, just open my eyes but i know better not to. My paranoia goes through the roof and i feel like people are going to take advantage of my state and kill me. Sometimes i hear voices or loud crashing noices too.

I only got this after my diagnosis, maybe a year after.

My question is: would i be a catatonic subtype ( i was diagnosed paranoid subtype)? And could this become more common? Its seriously my least favorite symptom because i feel helpless. Or is this just sleep paralysis?

Thanks for any replies/info on this.

I get paralysis if I have a fever or coming off a med or starting a new med. It happens a lot.

Hope you feel better.

Could be that as lucid dreaming is common after i fall asleep again.

That’s sleep paralysis. Do your best to stay calm during because the more scared you get the scarier the hallucinations will get. Remind yourself it’s a normal phenomenon that keeps you from acting out your dreams, you’re just accidentally conscious for it. It also helps me to keep my eyes closed when it happens because it freaks me out more if I see things in my actual room vs just w my eyes closed. If you know how to wake up from dreams, you “wake up” from sleep paralysis in the same way. Other than that, you can try to focus on moving one of your toes to snap out.

sounds like sleep paralysis, catatonia happens when you are awake and can last a long time.
