Sleep paralysis - had it before?

I just found out smth I suffer from on a regular basis (this morning, for instance) has a name.

It’s called sleep paralysis. Science doesn’t seem to be absolutely sure what causes it, yet it’s when you wake up, your eyes wide open, totally able to move your eyes about, yet the rest of your body is literally paralyzed.

My last p-doc told me about it. He said it’s normal. Most people experience it once or twice in their life. The brain shuts down the body during sleep so we don’t act out our dreams. For whatever reason, some people wake up and it takes a few extra minutes for the body to respond after the eyes have.

Was wondering if anyone has experienced this? Some people experience it with their eyes closed. And for some it is terribly frightening.

Yeah I started getting it regularly when I was 15. When I found out what it was I thought it was cool and used it to study hallucinations. Learned how to snap out of it eventually and then I stopped getting it as much. I do still get it semi regularly today.

Yes I’ve had it regularly since I was 17. It’s very scary. What helps come out of it is if you focus on moving something small like your big toe.

I get it sometimes. Or maybe what I’m getting is hypnogogia.
It’s like I’m very sluggish and trying to wake up, but I’m still sleeping. Usually comes with hallucinations.

Sometimes I can move a bit, sometimes I can’t. I usually get scared and try desperately to either scream for help or wake up for real.

I have that fairly often. When I was still delusional, I believed I’d been having an out-of-body experience. I doubt if that was the case now.
