We’re having a hard time house training her. We’re always cleaning up messes. She’s I think 9 or 10 weeks old. I think @Wave mightve said that before they were a certain age they can’t be trained effectively. She’s so cute I don’t want to give up on her.
That’s far too young to be trained fully it takes months of dedication.
Yeah. I told her that. My niece who is a dog foster mom and has trained many many dogs even says she’s too young. I have a lot of non carpet flooring in my house so cleaning is not a big deal.
That breaks my heart. Poor baby can’t even help it
Invest in some puppy pads and spray them with the training stuff. They can to learn to pee in specific places before they can learn to wait until they are outside. When my puppy was that young, we trained him to go on the puppy pad in the house, and made sure he could always access it. Then we moved the puppy pad to right inside the door, then to right outside the door, etc, until he was consistently going in the far corner of the yard.
I’m gonna tell my sister about how you use puppy pads. There’s a spray that you need? Thank you
Yeah it’s called like puppy training spray or something. You spray it on the center of the pad and it makes the puppy want to pee only there. Then you watch her closely and when she goes, you immediately give her a puppy treat (at that age, usually just a piece of kibble because they dont know the difference) and she learns that peeing there gives her rewards.
Since my dog came from a puppy store I’m having a difficult time potty training her but she’s really too young to be fully trained.
@Loke tell your sister that puppies should start the potty training process at around 12 to 16 weeks.
Expecting complete success before 16 weeks is really not possible.
My 11 week old puppy is constantly peeing and pooing in her crate and in her pen, even though I’m always taking her outside to go potty.
She hasn’t caught on yet.
Puppies under 12 weeks old don’t have control over their bladders.
Their brains are way underdeveloped at this young age.
My puppy is also constantly putting all kinds of things in her mouth.
She is teething.
If she wants to give up her puppy to save her carpets I would wonder if she actually should have a dog at all.
It takes months of dedication to potty train a puppy. It’s a tiresome process. People really need to think things theough before getting dogs. It reallly bothers me.
Another option would be to get an adult dog that is already trained. That is what we did with our first dog.
They’re my carpets. They can be cleaned.
I second @Ninjastar, all my dogs are pad trained.
I do it incase we’ve left the house for too long and these three need to potty.
Train them on a command word, mine was “Pee pee pad” id repeat it and show them where it’s at multiple times, after not too long you can start saying it as soon as they start to squat to go and it’ll click.
Puppy training can be frustrating.
Wish you luck.
I wish we had dog were I am
My dog is 5 years old and still poops in the house, but always in the same room where there is no carpet so it is easy to clean up. Sometimes he pees too. I think it is because he is small and can’t hold it in all night until we get up in the morning to take him out.
