Have you had kids?
Did you get off your meds at any point while pregnant?
I’m curious because my husband and I plan on having a baby soon… and my prescriber suggests I get off my meds for the first trimester… but I’m honestly scared to.
I don’t feel it’s for me I can’t take care of my self and don’t feel I can manage kids. Not even without the dx I wasn’t too keen
Ah… I feel you, I’ve always wanted kids… until I was diagnosed, now I want them again lol. I’m lucky to have my mom around, she will help me take care of it if I need help…
How have you been?
Hadn’t seen you on here in awhile
I went my whole pregnancy off meds.
There were some scary times, but for the most part I didn’t have much of a problem.
It’s a very individual thing with lots to consider.
Dang… that sounds rough😞
Good for you though!
Did you ever relapse while off your meds?
Yes,
But it usually takes a couple years to get to that point.
I just happened to be kind of in that sweet spot when I got pregnant.
Maybe I’ll try going off them for the first trimester…
Talk to your Pdoc and Obstetrician,
They should be able to help you.
Yeah, I have an appointment coming up…
But my mental health prescriber suggested I go off them
You could also switch to a different medication during your pregnancy,
Like @LED, she was on meds while pregnant/breastfeeding.
When I was pregnant with my daughter I was on haldol the entire pregnancy and for 2 years of breastfeeding. Zero problems. It’s one of the safest APs for pregnancy because it has the most info supporting its history of no statistically significant issues.
When I was pregnant with my son I was on Abilify, but they took me off that as soon as they found out I was pregnant.
Going off meds is super dangerous. My meds started not being enough at one point in my pregnancy and I got psychotic and almost killed my daughter.
Plus, once you go off there’s no guarantee that they’ll work the same when you try to go back on them.
Yikes… I’m on abilify now… maybe I should switch to haldol…
Haldol was a great med for me for many years. I definitely recommend it over going unmedicated.
The thought of going unmedicated in and already stressful situation makes my skin crawl. That’s just straight irresponsible to recommend.
Also, if you haven’t already talked about it with your ObGyn, definitely do that. They will know as much, if not more, about what meds are safe during pregnancy. My perinatologist with my daughter was the one that insisted I stay on my meds. My pdoc said I should try going off of them and just living in the hospital for 9 months since I’ll inevitably go psychotic. Because that’s not completely ridiculous when I could safely stay on my meds. Lol
Anyways, my point is, get your OB and pdoc to talk to each other.
I am currently pregnant and on abilify injection once a month and 50mg of qutiapine at night.
I have discussed with two different psychiatrists and they agree to keep me on medication cause if I relapse while pregnant the baby will be even more at risk.
I had my first scan a couple of months ago and baby looks normal. Blood tests have come back normal.
I am having another scan on Tuesday. Also because of my mental health and medication and also a heart leak I have to give birth in the hospital.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the response @Qwerty
That gives me some relief that you’re also on abilify and everything seems to look fine!
Good luck to you❣️
