Angie is home today with support and I’ve stopped smoking even though this morning I was enraged when my neighbor revved up a bunch of motorcycles at 7 30 a m…man I was pissed. Angie said before I got out of bed…“grab some gum !!” that was a blessing. Made me feel like I had a defense against cravings. which I do. listening to newer music that’s mellow and not provoking to think about partying or anything. I had a long stint of non smoking time on my slate before I messed up for about a week. I feel happy and stay out of bed which is what I’m doing differently now. feels good…
Coffee and sugar are it for me now. Am missing the alcohol vibe and buzz, but not the addiction.
Day one… completely vice free… this is a great start… and we all have to start somewhere. It’s not easy, but day one…
Then celebrate it and tomorrow post… day two.
Congratulations and good luck
I’m proud of you, jukebox. You’re battling your bad habits bravely. Personally, I have to deal with alcohol and caffeine. When I smoked, drinking was always a trigger for me. Watch out for those mood altering substances.
I recently switched to the e-cigarette and i’m not sure if i’ll never look back, it’s great. So for me it’s only e-cig and coffee.
One day at a time…
Reminds me of that old saying by Confucius(?). The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step". Good luck in tackling your vices.
Thumbs up Juke, you made it…Keep going with it.
You need a balance. You don’t need to completely quit alcohol. Many advocate just moderation. It is the greek mentality.
you can do this michael. it doesn’t matter how many tries it takes, the point is to keep on trying. i have complete faith in you that one day you’ll stop and never look back.
My only real vice would be coffee - I love the stuff, and I do not plan on quitting any time soon.
The meds keep me pretty sedated, so I need the caffeine to keep me functioning.
If I were you @jukebox I would try to kick the weed habit first. Try to focus on one addiction at a time - next after you have tackled the weed issue - try to quit smoking the cigs - etc…
Kicking one habit at a time is easier than attempting to break multiple habits at the same time - Good luck - you can do this!
I need to join you in this endeavor… I’ve seriously cut back on things but have not yet kicked any of these habits
I get ashamed of myself, and mad at myself
day 2…tougher than day one for me for some reason. I just can’t seem to get out of bed…I am now and plan on staying that way. but I’ve only been up for about 30 mins. why does this have to be so ■■■■■■■ hard !??
It’s like crazy hard I can’t figure out how to set myself straight on it, just doing it, thinking it,it’s all so hard. And I cont have good coping mechanisms either…and I have too much open time…you have my heart on this one @jukebox
You body and mind are both fighting an urge. It’s hard work. It takes a lot of energy.
Be kind and patient with yourself.
Maybe think of something that might be fun? A nice walk… a picnic with your girl? Low key and relaxing?
Good luck and hang in there
thanks @Vivotica I have a lot of time on my hands too. I found a beatles songbook for the banjo that I have been using for my banjo and it seems to really cheer me up. I only play “lucy in the sky with diamonds” right now but it’s fun…staying busy and out of bed is the biggest steps for me right now.
@SurprisedJ yes patience is not so easy for me. I want it to be “over” right now !! still a bit of fighting the urges for a while now. I see that and it makes it easier. I told myself I would really fight the urges and I almost gave in about an hour ago. whoa. this is not easy.
Your working hard…
Someone told me this grain…
“You only really fail when you give up.”
As long as your not giving up… Congratulations… ![]()
have you tried getting a shisha pen michael? they are only about ten dollars on ebay and the liquid about 3 dollars a bottle. just a thought.
hi Jayne, no I don’t want to use a vapor pen. I have read bad things about the fluid not being good for you. but I appreciate the idea. a lot of my friends use a vapor but I don’t want a new habit to replace my cigarettes. vapors are hard or harder to quit than regular cigs.
