Side-effects of Risperdal

For those people who are on Risperdal, what do you find are the most common side effects?

I’ve been reading up about it, and it sounds quite promising. It also helps with irritability from autistic Spectrum disorders, as well as with PTSD. It really covers the bill for me

I’d like to add it to my regular antipsychotic, and see if the combination gets rid of the voices. Thoughts? Pros? Cons?

It caused some weird side effects for me, where I couldn’t control my tongue movement.

Did that effect go away?

I didn’t stay on it, switched to Abilify, so I don’t know if it would have gone away.

It works for positive symptoms 100% for me but idk about negative symptoms, not sure if its the risperdal or the sz. I am on 6mg.

Okay, good to know. I’m on Abilify myself, but the voices are still there. I’d like to try another Med, or a combination seems best

Okay, thanks good to know. It is my positive symptoms only that trouble me. I’ve got my depression pretty much under control now

What country are in dcragg65? Not to name any names but I have heard a success story with switching to vrayler from other antipsychotics that completely eliminated voices that have been heard for many years. Vraylar is only available in certain countries though.

p.s. this person was on risperdal , I believe, and still heard voices. They had also gone through trying most other antipsychotics at other times still with voices.

Risperdal Consta shots, Geodon and Seroquel all work really well for me. I get occasional breakthrough psychotic symptoms but none of them bother me at all and none of them stick around for very long. So, I’m doing really good.

According to studies Risperdal is pretty effective, more than Abilify. But Clozapine is at the top followed by Amisulpride.

Personally I had some positive symptoms on 25mg Abilify but none on 6mg Risperdal.

My only problems when I was on Risperdal being sedated, ED, frequent urination, and dry eyes/mouth. I don’t know if the Risperdal was causing all of these. I’m on Abilify now and have stopped taking my diabetes med. I developed diabetes when I was on Zyprexa in 2011 and weighed 340lbs. I switched over to Risperdal then.

I’m have some mild positive symptoms on Abilify but I’m happy with it because I’m not sedated and the ED is gone.

@Bowens I am in Canada. Do you know if it’s available here? I’ve never heard of that one. Are you on it yourself?

@SkinnyMe I’m glad you found a combo that works for you. I’m still dreaming of the day… so you find Risperdal effective obviously Any side effects?

@Aziz are you on Clozapine yourself? Any downsides?

@anon54988740 what is ED? Did you find Risperdal effective in controlling the voices?

I was afraid of that. I thought you might be from Canada. No, it’s not available in Canada currently. It’s a newer drug. Might be something to keep an eye on if it becomes available in Canada and Risperdal does not work for you. I know how much you want to eliminate your voices for the sake of your guitar playing in particular so I wish you luck.

Erectile Dysfunction. I didn’t hardly ever have a positive symptom on Risperdal though. I was sleeping maybe 10 to 12 hours a night on it though.

I will keep my ears open for news about that newer medication. Thanks for the tip

@anon54988740 I’m on testosterone shots, so maybe that would balance things out.

I’m already sleeping 10 hours a night, it’s the only way I feel rested

Viagra helped with the ED, but it’s really expensive in the US. I don’t know the story in Canada. I’ve heard prescriptions are cheaper there.

I couldn’t maintain an erection even when masturbating.
