Some people say you should some say you shouldn’t I really need help I have until weds day to decide do they really make life’s worse or better? what are the pros and cons ?is it worth taking
The main argument for them is that they control and even get rid of your symptoms. The drawback is that they weaken you physically in many ways. For some people they are extremely unpleasant to take. Geodon and Seroquel have done me good, without the misery of other ap’s. They don’t destroy my creativity, something all the typical ap’s do.
What’s your diagnosis and symptoms? Not enough information to tell you one way or another.
It’s for shizophrenia
Yes. It’s worth it. They’ve saved my life many times over.
Untreated psychosis is neurotoxic to the brain. Schizophrenia is a neurodevelopmental, as well as neurodegenerative disease. It is crucial to treat it.
Yeah, if you have schizophrenia you need antipsychotics. There are no effective natural approaches to putting schizophrenia in remission that have widespread publicity, that I know of. Data on that approach is spotty.
I’m trying a pro-antioxidant approach to get my brain and body out of the chronic “oxidative impairment” mode that would otherwise make my symptoms worse with tissue deterioration, but it’s not a quick fix. I have enough data to lean on saying “this works”, but as for full remission, it’s only been 2 1/2 months of that approach. I imagine it’ll take longer to fully put my schizophrenia in remission, and it’ll work alongside antipsychotics.
Save yourself the hassle and take meds. They have made my life immensely better. I’m higher functioning now than when I didn’t have schizophrenia. Without meds I would be institutionalized
If you don’t mind can you explain how they’ve made your life better reading somebody comments on this site is scaring me a bit not gonna lie
Are you able to work
I can go about my life normally without voices or delusions. I can speak normally and my disorganized speech is under control. One of my antipsychotics (I take two) helps with anxiety as well. Don’t let these comments scare you. It’s a battle for everyone to find the right one for them. Mine do have side effects, and I have to get extra sleep and watch what I eat but I otherwise I don’t really notice them. I don’t work but I do go to school full time for Human Computer Interaction and am currently maintaining a 3.78 gpa. I don’t mean to brag but none of this would be possible if I didn’t have meds.
I used to be terrified at the idea of taking psychiatric medication. I shared this concern with a counsellor and he said there are many high-functioning who people who take some form of pysch medication because the pros out weigh the cons, and people can be worse off without medication. If you take the medication early on when you get sick and work with your team on a treatment plan then honestly, you have a better chance at a normal life. Everyone is different and it may take some trial and error with the medication and treatment to find what works and what doesn’t work for you. If you’re so worried about side effects, ask your doctor to treat you using the lowest effective dose and do some kind of talk, social or cognitive therapy.
Also, I think stats say a large percentage of untreated SZ’s become homeless, harm themselves, become drug users and die prematurely. It’s not a nice way to live.
I’m not gonna lie, its a lot of work but it’s worth it. SZ is no joke.
All the best
Yes. For acute situations and emergency use, its very effective. The sooner you treat the better.
I am happy that you do great for school. May I ask what medicine you are on?
Latuda, Seroquel, and Cymbalta
Iam to starting to think NO tbh had to leave work early today because of nasty side affects of Latuda/Lurasidone due to terrible shakes.I must add also that iam the lowest possible dose of this AP 18.5mg,also I have read many stories/medical journal how different countries successfully treat people with SZ and AP,many recover fully, have families and good jobs aswell.
Sorry mean’t treat SZ without meds and AP’s
Antipsychotics saved my life. I though I functioned well without them, when it truth, I didn’t.
It took some trial and error to find the right ones for me, but it was so worth it! I have my emotions under control, but I can still feel them at a healthy level. I have more energy, I feel happier, my voices don’t pummel me with suicidal ideas anymore, and I’ve stopped lashing out.
I take Invega sustenna 234 mg. It changed my life. I did get negatives from it and my pdoc added Abilify 10 mg a day. I feel much better with both.
If you suffer with psychosis then taking antipsychotics is a must.
It will help immensely.
