I will be speaking with a psychiatrist in September about it but I am thinking I might cut the 10mg in half until then. I experience anorgasmia, loss of libido, and pleasure on Abilify. Its like that part of me is dead. It’s like genital anasthesia…
5 mg is not a therapeutic dose of abilify.

Taking 5mg for schizophrenia is like being off meds.

It is up to you what medication you take, but no one here is allowed to tell you what to take.

Well I was on a 200mg depot injection before I switched to the oral form at 10mg per day/280mg per month. So 5mg per day is not far off from 200mg depot in a month…
Several things.
Number one, the on label dose of abilify is 10 mg.
This is how it is supposed to be used in terms of proven efficacy through clinical trials.
That said, you may try to experiment by for example trying a lower dose.
It may be that for you personally it may work.
It is very individual.
Unfortunately there is no cure.
I tried two meds so far, and their effect has been so physically deadening for me that I quit them.
I sat on the sofa all day not able to rise from the sofa and couldn’t stand steadily on my legs.
The side effects that you describe don’t sound that severe.
That said, you may try switch meds if these side effects are too much for you,
and some people manage to do well off meds or on a dose lower than is considered therapeutic and
clinically proven.
Well I am due to come off the meds in April so I do plan a med free trial. I am curious if my libido will return. It does effect relationships so I think it is a serious side effect and a large part of the reason people come off these meds. Impotence/Erectile Dysfunction for men and anorgasmia for women is a significant factor in treatment non compliance. And I am curious if I will be well or I will revert and become psychotic again. I was only delusional - no hallucinations - but, I wonder if I will be OK.
I have a tendency to change my own meds. Never really works out.

My doctor just lowered my dose of abilify from 10 mg to 5 mg. I am worried about it because everyone on here says 10 mg is the minimum AP dose. But my doc told me that it interacts with my Wellbutrin which makes the abilify stay in my system longer and also he thinks I’m a slow metabolizer (I don’t know why).
I hope I don’t have any break through voices. When I was psychotic I had everything … visual, auditory, tactile hallucinations you name it.
