Should I join a gym?

There is a gym at the end of my road.

It’s quite expensive but it has an indoor and outdoor swimming pool

I need to do more with my time, so this seems like something I could do.

The exercise will be good and I might also meet new people

What do you all think?

Well, you could try it. Does the gym require you to commit to six months or a year or something when you join? IDK. If you feel you may use the gym and get your money’s worth than I say go for it. Go a few times and see how you like it.

I get health benefits from work and I just checked the app and you can get 7 day trial for free, so I can test it out

They do a flexible membership where it’s rolling 1 month but it’s more expensive.

Then sure, why not? Try it out, what have you got to lose?

You can pick up some basic equipment for cheap before committing to a gym. It’s not a bad investment in your health though and I recommend it if you can afford it.

I used to go to a gym, Planet Fitness (American chain), and I loved it. I did mostly cardio, though with some strength training, too. I always walked out of there feeling great. It also got me showering more, since I always would shower at the gym after a workout. The only reason I quit is that I messed up my back and couldn’t work out at all for a while. Once I get settled in an apartment of my own, I might join the nearest Planet Fitness. A basic membership is $10/month, $20/month plus an annual fee of around $60, I think, for the premium membership.

I think you should try it. You’ll feel batter after some cardio.

I like swimming and I am a bit overweight.

It is a hobby and gets me out of the house

The psychologist would be very impressed if I did this and succeeded

I worked out if I go there 5 times a week to use the pool it works out at £4.70 a trip

The local pool is £4.60 per entry but they always have classes in the evening, so the pool is not for general use.

This one is a bit out of my league, but swimming is my main interest if I want to do this

Yeah, that’s pretty steep.

It’s a premium gym. There are cheaper options but this one is the only one with a swimming pool in my town, and it’s at the end of my road.

I will need to have a think. I can just about afford it I think, I would just have to make sure I use it

Before gym you can do lots of weight bearing exercise. I found a lot on pinterest and some of their workouts cost you nothing but time. That would be my suggestion. Not swimming but that can come later. First things first do some regular weight bearing exercise. If your good in 6 months and can afford it then try gym. Gym’s can be hard if your not social…Costs you nothing but time.

I need to get out more, so my plan is to go to this gym and swim 5 times a week.

I am hoping I will meet new people, lose weight and get out of the house.

I think I might try and cut down on smoking which is expensive here, and use the money I save to pay for it

I have an appointment there Saturday at 12pm

I think you are being a bit ambitious. I would start at like once a week and see how you feel. I think a lot of people would find it hard to maintain that much.

Once a week is hard to make a routine, though. It’s still great if that’s all you’re able to do, but 2-3 times a week might be a good start as well.

I just started swimming it’s great cos there’s not much pressure on my joints, as an overweight person. Idk if you are, but it’s the perfect exercise for overweight people like me
