I know it is a strange question, but I was taken off the olanzapine 23 days ago, and am now on 25 mg seroquel? A doctor just told me the other day that such low dose will not work as an antipsychotic med. You guys on here have been telling me the same. But I feel fine. I don’t feel delusional or paranoid. Do you think I’m just lucky?
It shouldn’t be described as luck, but the onset of psychotic state is not something that happens immediately or necessarily. It’s possible you could go for years on the dose you’re on without having a psychotic break or entering psychosis
This is not medical advice. This is just my opinion based on my experience
What did your doctor recommend that you take insofar as medication is concerned? Are they okay with keeping you just on a low dose of Seroquel?
Yeah it can take a year or two for some to become psychotic again from stopping/lowering meds.
Not doubting you. Just curious where you get that number
Thats just what my pdoc and case manager confirm for me. And my own experiencd coming off meds in the past.
I agree with @Ozzyskits . You can hold out quite awhile before it hits in some cases. I went over a year on lowered dose before it bit me.
Yeah, I’m not advising that she remain off. APs if psychosis is something that she is struggling with, historically. All I’m saying is that I think it’s really difficult to determine whether or not onset will take place. Some people do get off APs although it’s rare
Yeah of course keep taking meds or up them. Im not saying get off them.
My pdoc perscribed 25 mg so so far that is the dose I have to take.
If you’re seeing your PDoc regularly, you should be fine
I just mean just because you feel fine after a few weeks of hardly any meds doesnt mean your in the clear.
Yes I’m seeing the psych nurse every second week. I like it much better on seroquel. I Hope I will not be psychotic again
it took for me 3 months before i went cold turkey after quit clozaril
It only took me two weeks to become psychotic five years ago when my pdoc cut off my zyprexa. That was horrible.
Don’t worry. There is no way to know what will happen, but there’s also no reason to worry. If you have medical professionals in your life, that’s the best you can do. Good luck!
Thank you very much.
the biggest question of my life would be if I quit meds would I become psychotic?
the last psychosis was in 2010
I think that Charles Foster’s made the point really clearly that the best way to get off meds is to use them successfully.
Biting at the bit never helps
But you don’t want to risk it, right? I think we always worry about that. I was told 3,5 years ago that my psychosis is chronic
