I only came out of my last episode of psychosis in April. But am stable on 5mg Olanzapine.
She may not of meant I’d be able to taper off, but those were her words.

yep i did mistake by self medicating and lowering my dose … I had a relapse … now i am commited not to play with medicine … i will fallow my psychatrist… medicine makes me sane … otherwise too much problem…
Well, the big thing is that you’re doing it with medical oversight. People really get into trouble when they go it alone because we don’t realize when we’ve lost insight and the psychosis has taken over.
I stopped meds with Dr advice, he tapered down my Abilify. Then I thought I was cured 100% so I stopped seeing my pdoc. Hospitalized voluntarily after 2yrs. No symptoms at the beginning but then symptoms appeared and slowly got worse with time until I was hospitalized after 2yrs.
That’s the risk, right? I went off meds and thought I was doing better than ever. Sooooo not the case.
yep i agree with you guys @Aziz @shutterbug
She may not of meant I could come off, but if she did I would try again one last time. I dream of being normal again.
best of luck @Luke83 …
Thank you 151515
You are yourself. An illness like this is not somehow separate. It’s just a description for some symptoms you have
Fact is as we age, things break, and the brain is no exception
Just be thankful they have the treatments to hand that they do today!
Yeah that is definitely one way of looking at it. It’s just that I hope to get back to my old self, even if it’s unlikely.
One last gamble when the doctor agrees.
Aps are not for temporary use.its for permanent use.i didn t get it why they prescriped for short term.this is just making worse the symptoms nothing else
personally I would seriously think about going down to 2.5mg for as long as you can even years from 5mg instead of just stopping altogether although I’m no expert. it’s better to just see what happens while you’re on the lowest dose you can get, I mean what’s the harm it can do? I don’t see why 2.5mg even 5mg would cause you so much trouble while other members barely have any side effects from 5mg but are still psychotic. I was diagnosed with psychosis and had no voices on 10mg olanzapine but had side effects like you so I then stopped my 10mg olanzapine and felt great but had an episode and was diagnosed as schizophrenic and it ruined me and it’s a common theme throughout this site. I think the problem is that you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms from the higher doses of olanzapine you were on and it really can take years for that to wear off. You just have to look on the forum to see other members on 5mg and they can barely sleep - it makes no sense. My doctor changed me from olanzapine to aripiprazole and I had a bad episodic reaction so the doctors don’t always know what’s best for you. you could be diagnosed with schizophrenia if you’re not careful and even end up homeless and lose your family friends etc. you just have to look at other members on this forum to see how bad it schizophrenia can be and you should be careful and think hard about this because the world doesn’t work like you think.
What psychotic symptoms do you have on 5mg and how long have you been on it?
I have been on 5mg for two months and have no psychotic symptoms at all. I definitely see your point in staying on a lower dose.
Should of stayed on the lowest dose the first time and maybe I wouldn’t have had a second episode.
I just find it hard to accept, when not so long ago I was well and had everything going for me.
it can take some time before the psychotic symptoms show up depending of the length and dose you were previously on, not just 2 months. I diagnosed with psychosis and then stopped my meds and it took a year until I stated hearing voices again then i got a sudden episode. I would take the 5mg - 2.5mg for a length a time and wait for the side effects to lessen down and the psychotic symptoms to show up. 2.5mg isn’t a high dose and I think its caused by the withdrawal from the higher doses you were on.
If you had a second episode without the meds why do you think it would work this time?
You can still do well in life but stability is the key and staying on some meds like everyone else.
I don’t think it will work I just hope there’s a chance.
dr added 200mg thorazine to mee… i am in shock… with first generation ap…
That’s not good. Hoping you’re okay
