Is there anybody here who is not on an AP?

I’m just curious if there’s anybody here who is able to function without antipsychotic meds? I have been on 25-50 mg seroquel for the last 7 weeks, but two different psychiatrists have told me that it doesn’t work as an antipsychotic in such small doses. So I consider maybe I should just quit it.

I was given an opportunity to taper off of APs last year and I lasted over eight months I believe until I had some physical health issues and the stress of them destabilized me. I had to use my Haldol PRN and am now back on an AP, Vraylar, but at a low dose.

I guess talk to your doctor about it, but make sure you have a fallback plan if it doesn’t work out.

The tricky thing about being off meds or on a super low dose ive found, is that it can sometimes take up to a year or two for psychotic symptoms to return. Thats what happened to me a while ago. It was pretty dissapointing because i feel a lot nicer med free while im still well.
But maybe youve got a ■■■■!? Who knows. Just make sure to be honest with pdoc and whoever else if you are getting returning symptoms. The sooner you get treatment for postive symptoms the quicker the recovery phase is. For me anyway. Good luck!

I wish I needed no meds to live, I sincerely despise being on them. I just have no choice or else the illness will return, once I take a few more injection am getting off them full time. I think you could do pretty well without APs if you do lifestyle changes and take some good supplements for the mind.

I feel much better off meds but others say I am crazy. I was off meds for 2 years last time I stopped them.

I’ve been on a low dose for awhile. I have insomnia but I’m not on the recommend dose for sz. I haven’t been symptomatic. Maybe that dose works for you.

I have never been able to taper off any of my meds. Feel like death warmed up with even the smallest taper

I go off mine a lot. Sometimes it’s me, sometimes it’s the hospital I’m ‘seen’ at. But I spend a lot of time off of medication lately, back on currently. Wish I was completely off I guesssss. But that’s not the case for me.

Quitted Haldol, get manic; Fluanxol depot was endless in the body, long time to get the power back, last one was Zyprexa, highly paranoid whilst tapering, eight years now, longest stay without nineteen years.

That means not that i was not psychotic whilst taking no AP’s

Lasted one year twice without meds leading to two relapses and that’s also the average time to relapse according to one study

Same, for the first psychosises

It isn’t really efficacious at that dose for schizophrenia because of how sequential binding works. It will bind on to histamine recptors before dopamine. At the same time there is a hyperbolic dose response curve to medication means that less actually does more. I.e. adding 25-50 does more then adding 25-50 to make 425-450

If it is working and you aren’t getting side effects keep taking it. Then reassess later down the track. Few can cope with, however you might be one of the few.

Also I know someone who relpased coming off 50mg

It’s… kind of sad and understandable in the same way why most people needs meds with SZ. Sadly what I read on this forum is that most people relapse or almost relapse without meds.

I only cut meds for a week, and it was seriously bad. At the same way I did this mistake and smoked weed during that week.

When I returned to meds after almost relapsing, I became suddenly (literally suddenly) better.
Even colors seemed brighter, visually I mean. I believe I am one who will be on meds for all, or atleast most time of my life…

Anemone I’ve seen people on lowest dose of sudden antipsychotics relapse after some months after quitting. Be wise and take the low dose of Seroquel you’re on.

Yes I still take the 50 mg seroquel, apparently 25 mg is too small a dose. I Hope you don’t mind me asking are you danish too?

Yes I’m Danish as well and from the southern part of the country(The south states).
I have been active on this forum for 30 years. When I started using this forum I couldn’t speak a word of English but I’ve learned a lot since then.
My name here on this forum is my real name so I choose to go public because I feel no shame of being Schizophrenic so I chooses to show my face.
