I was never really mature enough to grab the consequences of war by the cause. The tragedy of it is real and it’s difficult to be lighthearted when it is on my mind.

Yes, I do. War makes people lose the whole idea that life can be a good thing.
I think very few of the wars were worth fighting. World War II was worth fighting, but we had to do some pretty nasty things to win it. We created massive firestorms in German and Japanese cities that killed tens of thousands of women and children, but those bombing campaigns were necessary to win the war. From what I’ve heard about the Vietnam War it was an exercise in insanity.
