I loved Home Ec. I did very well in it. Industrial Arts was my nemesis as I am dangerous with any sort of tool. The only part I did correctly was the photo unit (who is surprised there). My shop teacher always looked at me with the saddest eyes.
Home Ec wasn’t even offered to boys when I was in school. I’m so glad you had the chance. It affected your later life so well.
I wound up being the one teaching the 4H Sewing project one year because the leader backed out (her husband developed cancer). The girls thought it was neat a male knew how to sew. I used to be able to knit and crochet as well, but it has been decades. I can still hem pants and take in a waist. Letting out a waist is beyond my skills. I have also taught cooking several times at 4H.
