Just got back from the doctors after finishing my second episode of psychosis. Will stay on 10mg Olanzapine for six months and then with all being well I will be able to try and stop antipsychotics again.
All of the same stress triggers were in place for both psychosis, so hopefully if I can manage these I’ll get another chance at being medication free!
Was expecting to be on medication for life, as is the view on here. And a diagnosis of schizophrenia.
I’m not out of the woods yet but hopefully all will go well.
I’m kind of skeptical about you going off and on the medications, but if your therapist will accept it then go ahead. You might think about finding a medication you like and staying on it for years. A lot of people like Geodon. I’m on it myself, and it does everything I want it to without giving me unpleasant side effects.
From what I’ve read on here and the guidelines I’ve read online I actually agree with you. I was expecting a minimum of two years or indefinitely on AP.
He must have a good understanding though, so I’m willing to give it one more go and hopefully there is no third psychosis.
