Schizophrenia is not a fatal illness, yet sufferers are still dying 20 years too soon

In the UK today, people with schizophrenia have the same life expectancy as the general population of 1930s Britain. Schizophrenia is not a fatal illness. It can be hard to treat and the severity of symptoms can vary enormously. It should not, however, kill you.

On the other hand, here are some things that can: heart disease; diabetes; respiratory disease. Schizophrenia sufferers are dying prematurely, not from the disease itself but from conditions that are treatable and often preventable. This is why today, at the start of Schizophrenia Awareness Week, Rethink are launching their +20 campaign, so called because sufferers of severe mental illness die, on average, 20 years earlier than the rest of the population.

In my little town the average life expectancy of the male population is 72-74, which means that I would die at the age of 52-54, five years from now, well, I try to live longer :smile:

I am going to be honest - the meds do not help the situation. I mean the atypicals are famous for causing all kinds of problems, including metabolic issues, diabetes, cardiac and thyroid problems etc…

As an ex schizophrenic/schizzoaffective and now merely personality disordered I should be fine. I may even live to 112 as the facebook quiz predicted. :wink:

Of course it shouldn’t just be about helping people to live longer but ensuring improvement in quality of life.
Living to 90 with 60-70 years of social isolation, and governments telling you what a parasite you are, is nothing to look forward to.

Schizophrenics that dont take meds will live much longer than the once that take med…
I take risperdal, i had salivia hormone tested and many of my hormones are elevated including estrogen, but psychTrists or pharmaceutical companys never recomend to have those things tested…l and elevated estrogen can cause cancer.
Now imagine what else the medication can cause that we dont know what to test for. And only pharmaceutical companies know and they keep it secret untill it exposed and law suit starts to happen.

It’s kind of sad how unfair that is, but at the same time I’m not clinging to life. I’ll die whenever I die. I’m already ready for it. When I was at my worst it was only love for my family and not wanting them to feel pain that kept me going. Now that my psychosis has calmed down I have more to live for. Like the potential to get a job and support myself. The possibilities have reopened. I don’t really believe im schizo I just went crazy once. It’s all calculated in my mind.

Schizophrenia is not any disease /illness,it can be treated but no cure exist
-schizophrenia is worst than the illness /disease,because in most of cases
you can diagnosis the cause of disease and treat it,while in the case of sz
you can not diagnosis the SZ CAUSE itself,so that it is hard to treat

Sz in herself is an autonomous psychological,mental and emotional state {what so-called hallucination},can be interference
with the human psychological component,the interaction between them “internal fighting” lead to a radial change in the psychological,mental,emotional states which reflected on the
personal characteristics,culture frame /content and behaviors through many disordered symptoms { the common sz symptoms }

we can not describe a state of conscious interference between 2 different types of
psychological component by word "disease or illness ",that is fact although there are
many symptoms of disorder has coming as a result of this interference !!

you should know that,the medical drug have no any effect on the sz cause,because
the sz cause is merely a whole conscious state "higher psychological organism " more
developed than the human psychological entity

-If there are any effect of the medical drugs on the human conscious,but they have not
on the consciousness state of the sz cause "hallucination organism "
-you can not get rid or remove a consciousness state by medical drug,because this
is means that you remove the life,attention,the conscious life,thinking,emotion…etc

by other words,the cause of sz is something like your self,so that you can not talking about
medical drug have the ability to remove the sz cause from the biological structure,because
this is means that you remove your self" life" before you remove the sz cause !!

it is understood for any REAL schizophrenic who takes medical drug,wherever the
medication have the ability to create a nice feeling state,while the voice source stay talking
without stop and does not lose his attention or impacted with the nice feeling state,and
the imaginary pictures do not stop moving,this means that the medical drug have effect
on the human conscious state without any effectiveness on the hallucination organism

the researchers needs more time to know these facts which it seems illogical and irrational in the eyes of readers !
