I’ve been dealing with schizophrenia for 25 years.
My mom and grandmother are all I have. Both are dying and soon I’m going to be all alone with no one to help.
I spent 10 years in the workforce trying to make it. I couldn’t do it and had to go on disability.
Every year I have to fill out paper work and jump through hoops to get food stamps and medicaid.
My local human services has cut me off 3 time. One time it took 9 months to get my benefits back. I had to call my state representative and she got me my benefits.
Well they human services just did it again for a 3rd time.
It’s a good thing I have my mom and grandmother to help.
What’s going to happen when I’m all alone living on my own?
I’m at the end of my rope dealing with them. I feel like jumping off a tall building. I’ve lost all hope of being able to survive in this world.
I’m going in the morning to try and straighten this out. Don’t know if I’m gonna have to get my state rep involved again.
It’s tough dealing with governments and benefits but it pays to be your own advocate. I still live with dad and it’s all cool now but when he leaves I’d imagine it’s another story. Still. Hope you sort it out without too much drama.
Can you get a case worker at your local clinic? They help with stuff like that. When you’re on your own you will do what you have to do. I mean I’ve had to deal with anything from the DMV to Social Security to my car insurance company to dealing with my 401K. I’ve had help sometimes but often I had to do it myself and I rose to the occasion.
I would recommend getting a case worker or even a therapist who might help you next time. Why did it take 9 months? If you deal with the problem as soon as it comes up it the process should go faster. I’m not trying to be callous or insensitive but if you stay on top of things then it will go easier.
Lots of schizophrenics before you have survived and lots of schizophrenics after you will survive.
I have a case worker at human services but they don’t care.
The reason it took 9 months was a screw up at human services. Accord to my state rep they were counting my income twice. How or why I don’t know. After they cut me off my case worker wouldn’t talk to me on the phone she was basically ignoring me. They wouldn’t even let me reapply. I had an appointment with my case worker at 9 am. They made me sit there until 4 pm and then said there was nothing they could do.
Well, there’s probably a lot more going on than I know about but it sounds like when it comes to your business some people are screwing up and other people aren’t doing their job. Maybe complain to your state rep about this and get her to intervene on your behalf about the case worker.
I’m having my own issues with my own case worker. He’s supposed to call once a month but he calls about every six months.
