I have epilepsy as well as sz. I was doing a bit of research and found that the two conditions are related somehow. People with seizures are more prone to sz and visa versa. Just out of curiosity, do any of you have a seizure disorder as well as this illness?
I had a seizure when I was in a severe psychosis two years ago. My chest jerked quickly and constantly. I did not know this was a seizure. Instead I thought there was a demon inside of my chest. I was frightened. When I was put on antipsychotics again, the seizure disappeared. Now I think the psychosis caused this seizure. I will never forget to take my meds.
it is suspected that I have Partial (Simple) Seizures. I have not been diagnosed as they were never severe enough for hospitalization or consultations, but Ive shown almost all of the symptoms.
I’ll bold which ones I’ve experienced, whether as a relation to the seizure or my schizophrenia or even gastroparesis, since they share some in common:
Abnormal muscle contraction, such as abnormal head movements Staring spells, sometimes with repetitive movements such as picking at clothes or lip smacking
Eyes moving from side to side Abnormal sensations, such as numbness, tingling, crawling sensation (like ants crawling on the skin)
Hallucinations – seeing, smelling, or sometimes hearing things that are not there
Abdominal pain or discomfort
Nausea
Sweating Flushed face
Dilated pupils
Rapid heart rate/pulse</b<
Most of these I would think aren’t that unusual for schizophrenic people or just regular people, so it’s easy to kind of diagnose yourself with this. In fact, there is a particular symptom here that I’m going to make a post about.
The changes in vision one…
About a year ago I collapsed. I wasn’t shaking or unconscious, I just fell on the floor out of the blue and couldn’t control my muscles for a few seconds. Does anyone think this was some kind of seizure?
Sounds like it. Thankfully you regained your muscle control.
My mother got diagnosed with Guillan Barre Syndrome for a while.
She was just doing the dishes when she randomly collapsed in the kitchen.
She was in the hospital for a month, completely paralyzed from the waist down and nobody knew why for a long time.
Then she was wheelchair bound for a while and had to endure a lot of physical therapy to walk again.
That kind of things has completely frightened me. I used to freak myself out and get paranoid that the same thing would happen to me and something similar did end up happening to me. (Gastroparesis) So â– â– â– â– !
I don’t know. My family is a magnetic for rare disease and disorders.
Like my dad said to the doctors when I was in the hospital, " I know you’re thinking horses, but she (me) is a ZEBRA! We’re a whole family of zebras!"
An EEG was pretty much one of the first tests I went through when I was introduced to the mental health system. I haven’t got it but have a friend that does have epilepsy who is also sz. He hasn’t had a seizure since he started taking meds for it.
Oh I should mention, that its likely that I have partial seizures because it typically runs in the family, though my sisters have full blown seizures where they just randomly collapse and we find them sprawled out on the floor. I’m very fortunate to have it as easy as it is, though it is uncomfortable.
I get that from standing up to fast just the blood rushes to fast to the head or something. Do mention it your doctor if you hadn’t though as could be anything.
She is much better know. Still not perfect, but she manages very well.
As for the second part, don’t count on it! Lmao, You only have 5% of my family history by now, including myself. The rest is just so ridiculous you wouldn’t believe. The medical bills, oh my god, the worst.
From what I understand about the different types of seizures, there is one type where people just lose all muscle tone for a few seconds. I forget what it’s called, but it fits the description. I’d mention it to your doc, maybe and EEG would shed some light on it.
