Does anyone here suffer from seizures as well as schizophrenia/schizoaffective?

i am scared. I have been having blackouts and falling getting hurt and suffering big bruises. I thought it was because I was taking too much Klonopin with my Topomax for my migraines and Geodon for my schizoaffective. I am being sent for a EEG,EKG, and a CBC. Does anybody else have this problem?

I have a few on and offline SZ friends with epilepsy. Not saying you have it but not to worry as the meds are unbelievable in working these days for it. I also had an EEG a long time ago. Although the machine looks terrifying it’s an extremely comfortable experience. Main thing is you will need to wash your hair after. As the gunk that connects the wires to your head gets in your hair.

Hopefully all the tests will reveal what’s going on with you and will be a simple treatment. I’ll send positive vibes your way and you will be in my thoughts. Please keep us informed with what’s going on. As we are here through thick and thin for you.

Thank you I will. The hospital scheduling doesn’t open for another hour and a half.

My son was also having seizures, or blackouts.
he was scheduled for the same tests, but he would not go.
His case manager thought he was drinking too many of those energy drinks and coffee. maybe even taking something he wasnt supposed to. Still dont know what caused them.
Good luck and hope things go well for you

Hello @Saphire. In my experience, what is happening does not quite sound like a seizure. Not everyone experiences them the same way, but a hallmark sign is biting the tongue. You see, I have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, and take Depakote and Keppra for it. I have a neurologist I see regularly. One of the smartest physicians I’ve ever met. I should warn you, an EEG is not the be-all-and end-all. They can still go undetected. Mine didn’t show up on an EEG, but I almost passed out when they were flashing the lights. I felt the strength of my consciousness being tested, though. Klonopin actually helps prevent seizures (as can Valium). That is another reason I don’t think you’re having seizures. But if you’re blacking out, DO NOT DRIVE UNTIL A DOCTOR CLEARS YOU!!!

I don’t have a car so driving is out. I don’t have them often. I have only had about ten in two months. It’s on days that I am actually sleepy still when I get up to get to the bathroom. I usually make it to the bathroom ok stumbling about like a drunk but then I go for a drink because I am thirsty and I fall before I get there. I have knocked over the recliner and the bookcase and I broke a pedalstal fan and snapped it in half the first time, the second time I fell on the fan in the corner of the bedroom and landed on the blades and broke the broken fan from two pieces into four.

yes,i have a seizure disorder…haven’t had a seizure in several month’s though…i see a neurologist
every 6 months to check how things are going with me…

Seizures kind of run with me and my sisters, but mine arent nearly as severe. Mine are more like Post-partial seizures. I think that’s what they’re called.

I get jaw shakes

Ten in 2 months averages out to about one per week. That’s a lot. Still doesn’t sound like a seizure. Are you remembering falling and hitting the floor? That’s not a seizure. It does sound like some neurological weirdness, but not seizures. Find a qualified neurologist - that would be my advice.

I would agree with alien99 that they don’t really sound like seizures although the best person to discuss this with is your doctor. My husband stumbles, walks into and over things when walking around half asleep half awake. He breaks fans and stumbles over chairs… Spills liquids… I think perhaps you are doing things in an in between state of wake and sleep. Maybe put a drink beside your bed so that you don’t need to stumble to the kitchen to get one in the middle of the night. Perhaps some of your medications are contributing to the inability to be coherent in the middle of the night due to their sedation affects.

no I don’t remember falling all of the time sometimes I feel myself start to fall though. I “wake” up dazed and find myself in a room hurting in whatever position I find myself. I also bite my tongue don’t know if it means anything.
