Scary movies.. schizophrenia

U guys reckon its not a good idea to watch horror movies with our illness?

Why not? I have my own problems with them. I guess they are too real for me. I keep on looking for the evil dudes in the darkness. But I don’t think most people have this problem - even people with sz…

Doesn’t bother me but find it hard to sit through movies these days. Just don’t have the concentration for it.

Same haha, maybe a small anime episode would work. But id rather spend the time listening to music

For those with apathy and lack of interest it would be hard to watch any movie at all. I suffer from cognitive and negative sx which make it hard for me to concentrate or enjoy anything. Apathy makes it hard to get emotionally invested in movies.

I notice a lot of influences from schizophrenia in horror films and video games.

It probably varies from person to person and it might also depend on how scary the movie is.

Around halloween i saw the original Hellraiser and 70s Invasion of the body snatchers for the first time. And prince of darkness. And also the thing for about the 5th time. I like Carpenter movies. I also like some horror games like dead space and alien isolation and i just started playing amnesia. Not real big on the slashers like Freddy and Chucky and Jason. Nor did i like saw that much cause it was basically just gore porn. I watched the first alien with my Dad when i was like 12 or 13 and that really scared me. Everyone said “It” was really good but never saw that one. The only King movie ive really enjoyed was the dead zone. I liked the shining as well. And saw jaws when i was a teenager and have always been a little weirded out going in the ocean now even though i have a better chance of drowning. Get out the one about the black boyfriend going to the white girlfriends house was also really good. It just depends on if u like to get scared or not. For me i think a good scare from time to time is good for me. Though i will admit after seeing some of the movies ive listed there have been periods where ill wonder. R they gonna replicate me or assimilate me or is an alien gonna pop out of there chest

anything frightening tends to trigger paranoia with me so i avoid them

The movie “Eyes Wide Shut” scared the hell out of me and reminded me of my paranoia during psychosis.

I stay FAR AWAY from Horror Movies. My mind is poisoned enough from all the Horror movies I saw in my youth. I have had episodes that were inspired by Horror films and now I try to stay away from them… I think they are a bad idea.

I love horror if something can make me jump I’m impressed! But the problem is I have to make sure my head is in a good place cause if I’m already paranoid and I watch/play something like that I’ll like hear/see things from the movie and panic for like 2 weeks.

But on a side note the way the horror genre presents mental illness most of the time is really shitty

Depends on the plot for me, If I can relate to it, then out come the Ativan

I use to be not able to watch scary movies. Now I can just some though.

As a horror junkie… the new movies are just rip offs of the classics… but with uber realistic violence painted all over it… i watched one recently…it was just kill bills story with added demon powers and too much violence… horror movies have become more about shock and disgust… its just sad…

Haha no definitely wouldn’t recommend. Yet sadly I was born with a penchant for horror and surrealism :disappointed: Ah well. Tbh nothing scares or phases me anymore, compared to what I’ve dealt w in psychosis scary movies are just silly fun now.

It depends on my mood that day. If I’m already feeling anxious or paranoid I’ll avoid them but if I’m having a good day I’ll watch them. But I never really liked the very gory ones, more liked the thrillers and trying to figure out what’s going on. Like the ones with lots of twists and turns. Think they call it psychological thrillers. @Kazuma When I watched the first jaws I would go in the ocean but always made sure I wasn’t the furthest person out. lol

I agree with this.
It’s like, “BOOM! Jumpscare! And look at all this blood, isn’t it creepy?”

I’m not scared by jumpscares, and I don’t find blood creepy, so these kinds of movies just annoy me, it’s as if they’re trying too hard to be scary.

I like the ones that really play with my mind and make me question my own sanity after watching them. I think ‘psychological thrillers’ is the genre?

I love horror movies. I like the smart or funny ones the most so those are hard to find

I think some of them, like “Lights out” or “The Babadook” give a pretty well narrative about mental illness. But yeah, generally, they are just perpetuating same old stereotype mentally ill = psycho killer.
