I had to go to the doctor for a steroids shot because my allergies were giving me headaches and infected throat…it was really hard to breathe at night and I thought…“you’ve got COPD” and I stopped smoking yesterday just like that…I think it really is just my bad allergies I’m taking zyrtec for. but now I’m on day two and I don’t want to cough and wheeze anymore so I think this could be the final deal. I have money and still haven’t gone to get any more cigs…wish me luck…
Good luck @jukebox…
You can do this!
Good luck @jukebox
Good luck @jukebox, stay strong!
Why don’t you vape @jukebox
This is really awesome news! I’m so proud of you! Congrats!
I tried vaping…I couldn’t hold down a hit of vape smoke without really coughing out loud very hard and for about five minutes I couldn’t stop coughing…plus I don’t trust vapes being good for you.
Well done.
Excellento!
I really hope you will see it through.
When you get s determination it’s easier to see it through.
I quit over ten years ago.
It was n is great to be able to afford so much more.
I remember not being able to afford milk because I spent the money on cigarettes instead.
I was minus in those days meaning I would lend smokes and then pay back so I was minus a pack of smokes each month.
I am plus now and even have a a few dollars put aside be it my baby needs a vet etc
Good wishes to you !!!
@Truemist8 thank you so much…I am repulsed by my coughing so even though I feel the withdrawal I don’t want a cig.
Stick with it and congratulations. My story is similar to yours, except I would blackout briefly after coughing. I quit in May of 2011. Last November I was diagnosed with emphysema but mild. Not on oxygen or inhalers, but I occasionally have shortness of breath. I smoked 35 year’s before quitting. But the blackouts scared me, and I went Cold Turkey.
Good luck @jukebox ! You’ve got this!
hang in there @jukebox ! You can do this!!!
Good luck, not sure how I’m going to quit, Its always on my mind but so far nothing has worked
I just know my breathing will be better if I don’t smoke and I am tired of being out of breath.
Go for it Jukebox!
I’ve vaped for 5 years and haven’t had a cough at all, if you find it hard to stay quit, consider the vapes. But hopefully you can just slam it down cold turkey style!
Awesome. You can do this
We’re learning so many bad things about cigarettes in my classes right now. Oh my gosh they cause so many health problems. Chronic drinking is actually worse but there aren’t ad campaigns for it ironically.
Good luck to you. Cutting cold turkey may be very challenging, so don’t feel so bad if you have to go back and get some nicotine gum or patches or something at some point. Also Wellbutrin is supposed to be good for preventing cravings, some people on here have tried it.
thanks everyone… @Anna I really feel like I’m “over” smoking cigs…too much of a health risk and too damn expensive…pall malls went up a whole dollar in our new taxes. It is simply just time for the quit. I feel proud…no cravings whatsoever.
If you’re under 40, quitting cigarettes now reduces your risk of dying from a smoking related illness by 90% Just learned about that in patho. Awesome you’re doing well so far!! Keep it up!
that’s my point @Anna I am afraid of cigarettes. but I am also 56 !! my mom is 75 this year and she still smokes a couple of cigs per day…I smoked a pack a a day…cut that down from two packs a day back about three years ago…I’ve been trying to stay quit for years. I am sure people on here are sick of my whining about being a couple days quit…I believe this will stick this time…don’t want to die…
