Saw the hawk again in it's field

Next to my apartment complex there’s a nice field I go to walk to to smoke. A couple times I saw a hawk flying overhead. Once again today I saw him gliding beautifully over ahead of the field looking for mice and whatnot. I love birds of prey, they’re my favorite animals. He was circling but not on me…he was circling but not going down anywhere. I may visit another park now because nature is a thing of beauty.

He is prolly somebody’s hawk.

I’m from Alaska and it’s kinda normal to see hawk’s that are trained.

I wouldn’t be alarmed.

I’ve seen HUGE snowy owls that are trained

I drove home one night and followed an owl in the wooded drive. Saw Bald Eagles last year.

This year, I hope to scout more owls. I watched a documentary about them.

Some snowy owls in Alaska can get big.

And some people try to train them along with other wild animals.

I think that’s ■■■■■■■■… Just leave them alone.

The birds of prey here in Scotland tend to live far away from humans. I mean I see buzzards quite regularly - hovering very high up. Have seen sparrow hawks a couple of times. But you really have to stray from the beaten path to see larger birds. Some country parks have telescopes set up to look at osprey nests and the like.

Unfortunately there used to be a spate of bird poisoning by gamekeepers. Presumably because the birds of prey where eating the pheasants. This got made illegal as did egg collecting. You can get into a lot of trouble if you are caught doing that.

I remember going to one of those out of town shopping precincts and a guy had a load of tethered birds of prey on little stands. He said they had all been orphaned and wouldn’t survive in the wild. So to cover their upkeep costs he displayed them for donations. There was a golden eagle that was beautiful (it’s talons looked nasty!).

I looked out into my backyard the other day, and there was a Hawk who had a squirrel in its talons on the ground - then all of a sudden it swooped away with the squirrel - probably its next meal, it was an awesome sight!
