Risperidone experiences

Has anyone had a positive experience taking risperidone please?

I’m about to start taking it and am afraid of the side effects.

Did not help me but it might help you

The joy of trial and error

And you thought science was supposed to be a little bit more accurate than that!

But I truly do root for you in that I hope you find a useful med for yourself fast!

Unfortunately I’ve been on risperidone for decades and the ultimate result is me contracting Tardive Dyskinesia

Other than that it has helped my moods and psychosis tremendously

It gave me terrible OGC and akathisia. However, it was about the first drug that actually worked for me.

I was allergic to this drug. Made my tongue swell up and I felt like I couldn’t breath. Had to take cogentin I believe it is called for the allergies. Thankfully, I wasn’t on it long at all

This was the first AP I got put on when I was 14 years old. I don’t remember much other than the weight gain in the year that I was on it

Ive been on risperido e for the last 3 years. It doesnt get rid of the voices completely for me, but makes them a little quieter and makes my emotions not so harsh. I dont have any bad side effects.

It worked really well for me but I gained like 100 pounds so they had to take me off of it.

It got rid of my symptoms completely on 4 mg. But it gave me extreme insomnia & crippling anxiety. I had to get off it.

My first time on Risperdone, I was on 6mg— didn’t touch my symptoms, and it raised my prolactin to the point where I was lactating.

Years later, I’m on 1mg (along with 20mg Abilify) and I think it’s doing something, but I’m not sure what.

About a year ago I started 20 mg of olanzapine a day.

It didn’t help me quite enough, so my pdoc prescribed me 1 mg of risperidone on top of my olanzapine.

I had gone 10 years unable to work and barely able to leave the house.

That is, until my olanzapine/risperidone combo,

I have been working since the last week of May.

I take risperidone.

I gained 50 pounds, but it works well for me.

My doctor prescribed it because she said in her experience it was the most effective AP.

Of course everyone is different and you have to see what your own experience will be like, but it has been a life saver for me.

Precursor to paliperidone (metabolite)

Didn’t notice too much from it except lethargy and oversleeping.

i had very bad experience on risperidone specially in negative symptoms luckely olanzapine has done great work for me

Risperidone was the first AP I was put on – I remember not liking it at all. I felt very rigid. I was also completely out of it, mentally, that I can’t quite recall much else about Risperidone.

Congratulations for getting a job.

I was put on it in psyche ward and it relieved my psychosis. A pdoc told me it gives you man boobs.

For years and years I thought risperidol didn’t do nothing for nobody HOWEVER it helps a lot of people here and it got FDA approved for a reason it works for some I’ve even heard for some people it’s the only thing that will work

I hope it helps and as others have said it helps them just not me

I guess I’m a unique case it’s supposedly one of the best

Thanks @Top-post

I am on a very low dose. I take 1mg per night. I take it with Trileptal at 300mg. So, far, I am free of psychosis for the last year or so. A few years ago, they tried me on 4mg and it was way too much. I couldn’t stop kicking my legs and shaking. I am a lightweight when it comes to AP’s.
