Risperdal - experiences?

Hey, just got put on Risperdal for the first time, how are your experiences with it?

First day I’m really tired and foggy.

Risperdal oral was my first AP. It gave me a dry mouth with swollen tongue in so much I could hardly swallow. I then changed to Risperdal IMI but it was too expensive for me a the time but it was a good AP. I was then put on Clopixol Depot.

Risperdal was my first medication too other than a month on Zyprexa. Too much weight gain, slobbering in my sleep, and brain fog. Latuda is a new medicine that doesn’t hit the muscarinic or histamine 1 receptors so it’s got way less side effects. Risperdal caused my nipples to develop breasts and they hurt for awhile until they finally went away on latuda

It did nothing for me. I’ve been up to 6 mg/day with no results other than an appetite fit for an elephant.

i was put on risperidone three times, first time while in the hospital. But i couldn’t afford it so the stupid nurse put me on fanapt even though i told it was making me sick. the first time it helped at a dose of 4mgs a day. then i moved and that doctor gave me risperidone at 8 mgs a day. i wasn’t myself i was tired and foggy all the time. Then i moved back to my parents house. I couldn’t find a doctor close enough so we had to walk four miles to get to his office and he put me on 4mgs a day but this time i was anxious, paranoid and hallucinating.

Risperdal is by far the most effective AP I have ever been on.

Unfortunately because of ongoing Hormonal issues, I may have to switch meds.

I am worried that the new drug won’t help me out as much.

Risperidal was the first drug I was put on, I was only on 1mg at the time. First time in my life the experience started of having sexual side effects. Zero libido, zero orgasm and couldn’t ejaculate. I can’t complain though because when I got off I didn’t relapse for almost 5 years and the relapse was my own stupid fault.

It’s been a long time since I was only on one AP and it was Risperdal. I remember feeling very tired for the first week and that kind of went away. Low dose didn’t do much of anything and when I hit 6mg I started lactating. Tried to stay with it anyways but it just got to the point where I was tired of the side-effect so we dropped back down and then of course had to add more medication(s). Right now I’m on 3mg and I’ve been at that for just about 10 years. Any side-effects I have from that dose would be hard to say because of the other medications I take.

It works great for me in reducing symptoms after an episode. Coming out of an episode, the peace and tranquility outweighs the side-affects by far for me. But for maintenance I prefer abilify. Some side-effects of risperidone that bother me in the long term were increased appetite and sedation.

i was put on resperdal. my first ap. i was put on 6mg a day. a lot of weight gain and a pretty big appetite. had sexual problems but the worst was i would wake up every morning with my elbows locked in place, it was the most physical pain i have ever experienced to try and bend my arms but that went away when i was put on another drug. i forget the name though, i believe it was a blood pressure med.

I couldn’t sleep and it elevated my heart rate. So I got put on sleeping pills, still couldn’t sleep.

Female: Frigid, menstrual stoppage, leaking breasts, weight gain, voices did not stop (me). Clinic started to price gouge us on this. I was supporting myself on just the check at the time & got huge bill for consta shots. Got onto pills and changed meds. Seroquel is helpful for insomnia but my hallucinations do not respond to it either.

Male: erectile dysfunction, development of breast bumps, lactation, weight gain, inability to masturbate…

Pills will do this to less extent. Consta is shots biweekly. Shots take 6 months to wear off. Some say male orgasms are never as strong again. Female will be fine.

Local county clinic’s schedule was terrible. Not possible to use these shots and work first shift, will be waiting for 90 minutes here without a line. Not offered during lunch, before or after work. Not possible to pay for private psych doctor at regular price to administer this twice monthly…

I recommend seroquel. No side effects except some dry mouth, maybe weight gain so follow low-carb thing. Break into pieces and take at night for good sleep. Treats insomnia well for a few years if you keep weight down.
