What is the risk in percent of getting Schizophrenia with one parent and one sibling having it? I’ve found numbers about it seperately, but how about one parent and one sibling combined?
I have schizophrenia as well as my mother. My sister who is 33 years old has had mental helth issues for the last years, says she has very low self-esteem. It worries me if she is going to have an onset with schizophrenia. She sees a psychiatrist, but I’m not sure the psychiatrist thinks it’s important to consider the risk that my sister might get schizophrenia, and eventualy take some precautions. Myself I’ve had several therapist that have told me me I’m not going to get schizophrenia, and here I am. So that is my experience.
Since she’s an adult there’s not really anything you can do. Tell her it’s important that her pdoc knows the family history of sz and hope she is truthful if she has any symptoms.
My dad has the same thing as me so I have one parent with whatever our atypical anxiety/psychosis deal is. I have it, my younger brother has it, and I suspect one of my little sisters may have it as well though I can’t tell 100% just yet as she is still young. If she does, that is half of the kids in my family who got it.
But the normal rate for inheritance for sz with one parent with it is supposed to be just 15% I believe.
I had only one parent that had sza and no siblings that had it. I had one grandmother that probably had it and I got sza. If that tells you anything. This stuff is highly genetic.
Schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder run in my dad’s side of the family. My grandfather, aunt, dad and cousin all have either schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. I have schizoaffective disorder. My grandmother, mom and brother are all bipolar.
My half brother’s uncle has schizophrenia. I have it too. My brother is fine, but I remember him having SZ in a parallel universe. It worries me and breaks my heart. My half sister is fine but she has anxiety. She is in her thirties. My brother is 20.
